Not all “shockwave” is the same.

The word ‘shockwave’ isn’t protected, so it’s used for everything from £30 handheld gadgets to genuine medical equipment.

Most clinics advertising “shockwave” are actually using radial pressure wave a ballistic wave that spreads across the surface and loses energy the deeper it goes.

Focused shockwave is a different technology entirely. It can generate peak pressures up to approximately 100 times greater than some radial pressure-wave systems and unlike radial, it concentrates that energy precisely at a selected tissue depth, allowing deeper, more targeted treatment. It’s what the original clinical research was built on.

Different physics. Different depth. Different evidence base.

If you’ve had “shockwave” before and it didn’t help it’s worth knowing which one you actually had.

I do have both radial pressure wave and focused shockwave devices in clinic.
