What support, testing and treatment can help in PMOS?

In our final video, we talk about what to ask for if you think you may have PMOS and why diagnosis should look at the whole picture, not just one symptom or scan.

We cover symptoms to be aware of, important blood tests and metabolic checks, and the different treatment options that may help - from nutrition and lifestyle support through to medication and fertility care where appropriate.

Most importantly, we want people to know this: PMOS is common, real and manageable and you deserve support that takes your hormonal, metabolic and emotional health seriously.
Come and speak to us at REMEDI HEALTH for more information.

Today’s reel explores the link between insulin resistance and PCOS/PMOS.

Insulin resistance is a key driver in many cases of PCOS/PMOS, influencing hormone balance and contributing to symptoms such as acne, irregular periods and excess hair growth.

In this video, we explain how insulin impacts hormones like testosterone, why PCOS/PMOS is about far more than reproductive health, and the wider metabolic implications that can come with it - including increased risks of prediabetes, type 2 diabetes, cholesterol changes and cardiovascular disease.

Understanding the bigger picture is an important step towards better long-term health and support.

Understanding PCOS / PMOS

Polycystic O***y Syndrome (PCOS) affects around 1 in 8 women, yet it remains one of the most misunderstood hormonal conditions. In this new three-part series, we’ll break down the science in a clear, practical and supportive way, exploring hormones, metabolism, insulin resistance, and the treatment and support options available.

VIDEO 1 explores why the name PCOS is changing to PMOS.

In this first video, we explain why PCOS is about far more than ovarian “cysts.” We explore the proposed new term PMOS (Polyendocrine Metabolic Ovarian Syndrome), and what it tells us about the hormonal, metabolic and whole-body nature of the condition.
We also discuss common symptoms, why diagnosis can be missed, and why understanding PMOS properly matters for long-term health and wellbeing.

How are long-term health and HRT connected?

After menopause, oestrogen levels remain very low - and over time, this can have significant effects throughout the body.

Oestrogen plays an important role far beyond our reproductive health. Without it, and post-menopause, the body enters a state associated with increased inflammation and higher long-term disease risk.
This can include increased risk of:
• Osteoporosis and fractures
• Cardiovascular disease, including heart attacks and strokes
• Dementia
• Diabetes
• Autoimmune conditions
• Certain cancers
• Changes in muscle mass, metabolism, and brain health
HRT can play an important role in supporting long-term health, and evidence shows it may significantly reduce many of these risks for suitable women.
Yet many women still feel worried about HRT - often because of outdated information or long-standing myths.

Our understanding of HRT has evolved enormously over recent years. For most women, it is considered a safe and effective treatment, with very few unable to take it.

The key is finding the right type, dose and approach for you as an individual.

If you’ve been told HRT isn’t safe, it may be worth revisiting the conversation with a clinician who specialises in the menopause and receiving personalised, up-to-date advice.

28/05/2026

One of the questions we’re asked most often is:
“Am I too old to start HRT?”

In many cases, the answer is ‘it depends’ - but frequently women can start after the menopause.
There isn’t a strict age cut-off for starting HRT. We know that beginning treatment earlier - typically before age 60 or within 10 years of menopause - is associated with the most favourable long-term health benefits. But that does not automatically exclude women who are older.

What matters most is the individual sitting in front of us.

Symptoms, quality of life, medical history, long-term health, current medications and personal goals all need to be considered carefully.

For some women, starting HRT later in life can still have a significant positive impact on wellbeing and quality of life.

If you’ve previously been told you’re “too old” for HRT, it may be worth revisiting the conversation with a menopause specialist for a personalised review.

“Is it my hormones or am I just getting older?”

Many women are told their symptoms are simply part of ageing, but hormones can play a significant role.

Common symptoms include:
• Fatigue and poor sleep
• Heat in the body - flushing and night sweats
• Low mood or anxiety
• Loss of confidence
• Brain fog
• Joint pain
• Reduced libido
• Vaginal dryness

These can appear during perimenopause, menopause and beyond. These symptoms are often subtle and easily mistaken for other issues.
That’s why a proper menopause assessment looks at your symptoms, timing, overall health, and any other possible causes. This takes time and expertise.
If something doesn’t feel right, it’s worth exploring, not dismissing.

Follow along this week as we cover more common hormone and ageing questions.
