☕️ If a hot drink or liquid spill happens anywhere near your child’s nappy, remove it immediately. You can see here how the temperature is retained inside the nappy as the hot water is absorbed.

👶🏼 Nappies are designed to retain liquid so in a hot drink or water spill, all of that hot liquid is being held directly against your little one’s skin which is why it’s important to remove it as quickly as possible.

⭐️ The exception to this is if the material is stuck to burnt skin, do not attempt to peel or remove.

❤️‍🩹 Burns or scalds on the ge****ls can be severe and may warrant further medical treatment.

💚 Our two-hour baby and child first aid classes for parents takes you through exactly what to do if your child receives a burn, what steps you should take, how to treat it and when you should seek further medical assessment.

This August, as part of our Burns Awareness, do something for you and your baby, book a first aid class!

Classes are just £30 per person, check our website to find details of classes near you.

🚶‍♀️💚 150 MILES. ONE INCREDIBLE CAUSE

Throughout August, Mini First Aid franchisees and trainers are taking on our 150-mile challenge in support of the incredible Children’s Burns Trust, celebrating their 25th anniversary.

Some are walking individually, others as teams - but we’re all working towards the same goal:

📍 Mini First Aid HQ ➡️ Children’s Burns Trust HQ

And every step has a purpose:

🔥 Raising awareness of burns
💙 Helping prevent childhood burns
🩹 Sharing vital first aid knowledge
💛 Supporting families affected by burns
💰 Raising funds to help the Children’s Burns Trust continue their incredible work

Many walkers. One journey. One amazing cause 💚

Follow our journey throughout August and support us by donating or sharing our burns awareness messages.💚

⚠️ Save this post! If you are wondering how you should dress your baby for sleep in hot temperatures this summer, check out this guide and save this post to refer back to🌡️

Babies and toddlers under 12 months old are not able to regulate their temperature very well, this function develops as they grow. All babies/toddlers are different and will begin to regulate their body temperatures at different stages so you will figure out what is right for your child.

Remember to touch the back of their neck with the back of your hand to assess body temp rather than checking their hands or feet. The neck should feel warm. If the baby feels hot or his/her skin is damp from sweating, remove some of the bedding. A normal temperature in babies and children is about 36.4C (NHS)

Use layers of clothing with a sleeping bag or lightweight blanket, that can be easily removed or added, while you try to find the right combination. If using a blanket or sheet, follow The Lullaby Trust guidance on placing baby on their back with their feet at the end of their cot or Moses basket, so they can’t wriggle down under their bedding, and ensure the blanket/sheet is tucked in firmly and not above shoulder height.

For older children, the guidance about ideal room temperature is largely the same.

Thank you to The Lullaby Trust for this guidance 💚
