Should I stay online only or find an office in Spain?

This is my current dilemma.

The point of us spending a year travelling Europe was to figure out where we want to live. My husband however is working with a team in Spain, making that our most new likely home.

I love face to face appointments, I love the energy. Im not sure I want to give them up completely but I am thoroughly enjoying the freedom of working online. Not having to pay for an actual office is helpful though.

Do you prefer face to face appointments or do you like the convenience of them being online?

We did it.

We finally left the UK in search of our new home. We are planning on spending the next year travelling around Europe and possibly further in our motorhome.

The last year has been very traumatic for my family but now things are looking up. A fresh new start, full of adventure and excitement.

Don't worry though, im still working as usual, just via Zoom.

In my Mind Matters Patreon today we are talking about sleep.

Sleep isn’t something we can force or decide to do. It only really happens when some quieter part of us feels safe enough to switch off the watch duty. And that part is ancient. Way older than logic, way older than “I should be asleep by now”.

If you think about it, it makes total sense.

Sleep is the one time you’re not scanning, not reacting, not ready to respond. You’re vulnerable. So the unconscious mind has a simple question it asks before it lets that happen:

“Is it safe enough right now?”

Have you noticed how easy it is to say what you don’t want to feel… and how hard it is to say what you do want instead?

Anxious minds spend a lot of time focused on avoiding discomfort. That makes sense. It’s how they’ve learned to protect themselves. But where your attention goes matters, and gently shifting it can change how the whole system responds.

Hope and positivity can feel impossible when your mind is always bracing for what might go wrong.
That’s because the brain is constantly predicting the future based on past experience, and those predictions don’t feel like thoughts. They feel like dread, heaviness, or a sense that there’s no point.
Hope comes back, slowly and gently, when the brain starts to take in new evidence.

I used to feel like a fraud.

In the early days of my career I remember worrying that clients would see through me and know I wasn't good enough or that I didn't know what I was doing.

I was fully qualified and good at my job but It felt like every Hypnotherapist I came across knew what they were doing and I was just hoping no one noticed I was still figuring it all out.

It took me a long time to understand that feeling wobbly at the start doesn’t mean you’re not good enough, it just means you care.

Something that helped me was remembering that being human makes you a better Hypnotherapist, not a worse one.

People don’t want perfection. They want real. They want warmth. They want someone who understands doubt and fear and the messy bits. The more honest I allowed myself to be, the easier everything became.

Imposter Syndrome eases when you allow yourself to grow at your own pace.

I completely lost myself in perimenopause.
At first, I didn’t even know that’s what it was.

My ADHD got worse, my focus disappeared, and everything felt grey.

I was told I was too young, that my blood pressure was too high for HRT even though perimenopause can cause it to rise. I had blood tests that showed nothing, and no one mentioned how hormones can fluctuate for years before menopause even starts.

It took me a long time to realise what was happening.
And when I finally did, it changed everything.

My husband showed me a video about the Isle of Man TT and I loved it. (Link in comments).

It’s the most dangerous race in the world, riders flying round tiny public roads at 200 miles an hour, brushing past stone walls and lampposts. One mistake could be fatal.

And yet when they talk about it, they don’t describe fear.
They describe calm.

They talk about how everything slows down, how it becomes quiet and effortless, even in the middle of all that speed and danger.

That’s effortless action.

It’s not about doing nothing, it’s about doing from the right place.
When the mind stops overthinking and the body moves naturally, things just work.

Trying too hard creates resistance, but trust creates flow.

The riders aren’t forcing anything. They’ve trained, they’ve practised, but when the moment comes, they let go and allow it to happen. Every movement becomes precise, smooth, intuitive. It’s less effort, more awareness.

That’s the paradox of ease.

When you stop pushing, you actually perform better.
When you stop gripping so tightly, you start to move more freely.

It’s the same kind of focus I see in hypnosis, that calm, absorbed concentration where things start to click without effort. But really, it’s about presence.

The quiet confidence that comes when you trust yourself enough to let things unfold.

I have stopped asking my clients to do more.

My original training focused on repetition and daily practice but I’ve realised it can also leave space for guilt and shame on the days when life is too busy or when you simply don’t feel like it.

Many of my clients are tired and juggling far too much.

They don’t need to come to me and have more added to their plate. I’m noticing more and more, in both my clients and myself, that sometimes less really is more.

In fact, the biggest changes often come from doing nothing at all.

Our bodies were never designed for this non-stop lifestyle. So often when we feel broken, unmotivated, or lazy, it’s actually our body crying out for rest.

Now I give my clients access to the tools they need between sessions, and I encourage them to do whatever feels right, and sometimes that’s just lying on the sofa, scrolling, or binge-watching something on Netflix.

October’s track on my Mind Matters membership is all about scaling it back, keeping it simple, and allowing the unconscious mind to take what it needs, without effort.

The brain is always looking for ways to make life easier.

Every time you repeat something, your mind takes note and starts turning it into a shortcut. That’s why we can drive or make tea without thinking, but it’s also why unhelpful habits can feel impossible to break.

It’s not a lack of willpower. It’s wiring.

When something gives even the smallest bit of relief or reward, your brain releases dopamine, that little chemical signal that says, “Remember this, it helped.” Over time, those patterns become automatic.

The good news is, that same process builds better habits too.

The more you repeat something calming, grounding or kind, the more natural it starts to feel.

Because every habit started as a way to help. The work now is just finding better ways.

This is what I do in hypnosis, I help your mind unlearn the old shortcuts and build more helpful ones instead.
