Interesting case from today.
A client came in with a lateral ankle issue. He had previously suffered from low back pain, but that had largely resolved.
Assessment revealed increased tone in the left medial gastrocnemius and left TFL (Tensor Fasciae Latae). Through testing, we found the TFL was overworking and driving the compensation pattern in the gastroc.
Digging deeper, we looked for what was influencing both muscles.
Using NeuroKinetic Therapy (NKT) ligament testing, we found the anterior talofibular ligament (ATFL) facilitating for the posterior talofibular ligament (PTFL) on the left side. Once these ligament dysfunctions were addressed, the changes were immediate.
✅ TFL tested strong
✅ Medial gastroc tested strong
✅ Excess muscle tone reduced
✅ Movement quality improved
This is a great example of why the site of pain isn't always the source of the problem. Sometimes the body develops compensation patterns that can only be uncovered through a thorough assessment.
If you're struggling with ankle pain, recurring injuries, muscle tightness, or persistent aches that just won't go away, there may be an underlying compensation pattern driving the problem.
