Protected Learning Time in GP Practice
NHS Lanarkshire are committed to ensure that they provide the best possible care to our patients at all times. In order to support and sustain valuable general practices, Protected Learning Time (PLT) is being introduced from June 2024 across all GP practices.
PLT is an opportunity for the GP Practice team including clinical, management and administrative staff to address learning and professional development needs.
NHS Lanarkshire has GPs, Advanced Nurse Practitioners (ANPs) and Call Handlers to provide cover for patients who require Acute or Urgent Care during 1400-1800 hours. Routine requests (such as results or repeat prescriptions) from patients received via the call handlers will be asked to call back the following day when your GP practice resumes business as usual.
The Call Handlers will screen all calls received in a similar manner to practice reception staff and if deemed appropriate, the patient will be transferred to a clinician who will initially carry out a telephone consultation. If the clinician feels that it is necessary for the patient to be seen face to face, they will arrange and appointment at a primary care centre or house visit that afternoon.
We will be closed between 1400 - 1800 on Wednesday 26th August. Our reception desk will remain open until 1400.
If you feel you need to seen urgently that afternoon please contact the surgery number as normal, you will then be diverted to a call handler. askmyGP will open between 0800 - 0815 on this day.
We would appreciate it if this post could be shared.
We thank you for your cooperation

Unfortunately the decision has been made to keep askmyGP closed on Wednesday 12th August due to the volume of requests still to be worked through. It will reopen on Thursday 13th August.

For anything urgent please call between 0800 and 0930

We understand this will be frustrating however due to sickness, annual leave and unfilled clinical positions, this is a necessary step we have to take.

Clinical team are working as quick and safely as they can, respond time has increased due to the above circumstances and we ask that you bear with us during this time.

Appointments may be offered at short notice and we may not be able to offer another time due to limited appointment availability.
All prescription orders should go through our patient online service or through our phone ordering service; these should not be placed on askmyGP.

Your local pharmacy, optician and NHS Inform website can help provide information or treatment for your condition / queries.

Please utilise these services offered where possible.
We thank you for your patience and understanding

📣People in Lanarkshire who receive regular vitamin B12 injections may now be able to administer them at home.

💉 The new self-administration programme gives eligible patients greater flexibility, independence and control over their care, with full training, support and equipment provided by NHS staff.

Participation is entirely optional, and patients can continue attending appointments if they prefer.

👥Patients who would like to learn more should speak to a member of staff during their next B12 appointment.

Benefits of B12 self-administration include:
✅Greater independence and control over care.
✅No need to attend a Treatment Room for every injection.
✅More flexibility to administer injections at a convenient time.
✅Ongoing support and training from NHS staff.
✅The option for a family member or carer to be trained to administer injections.
