Yolo Funeral Services Your friends in funerals helping you celebrate a loved one's life once lived.

01/09/2026

As we step into a new month, September often brings a sense of change, the start of autumn, children returning to school and familiar routines beginning again.

For some, these changes can also bring memories of people who are no longer here to share them.

At YOLO Funeral Services, we understand that grief doesn't follow a calendar. Some days may feel easier than others, and sometimes a new season can bring unexpected emotions and memories.

However September looks for you, take it at your own pace and remember that support is always there when you need it.

Here's to a gentle September.

Recently, Claire and Zoe had the privilege of looking after a much-loved local lady from Levenshulme.

A proud matriarch of a large Irish family, she was at the heart of those closest to her. Well known within her community and a friend to many, she clearly touched so many lives throughout the years.

It was an honour for Claire and Zoe to support her family and help them say goodbye to such a special and much-loved lady, ensuring she was cared for with dignity, compassion and respect throughout.

At YOLO Funeral Services, we know that behind every funeral is a lifetime of stories, friendships, family and memories, we feel privileged whenever a family places their trust in us.

There are some gifts that can't be bought.

These beautiful knitted memory bears are lovingly handmade by Vivienne, a very special member of our extended YOLO family. Each one is created with care, compassion and kindness.

We gift these little bears to the families we support, offering a small source of comfort during an incredibly difficult time. Sometimes, they are placed alongside a loved one as a final companion on their journey.

It's often the smallest gestures that mean the most and these bears have brought comfort to so many families over the years.

A heartfelt thank you to Vivienne for giving her time and talent to create something so meaningful.

FAQ- Do you have to wear black to a funeral?

The simple answer is no.

While black has traditionally been worn as a sign of respect and mourning, there is no rule that says you must wear it.

Many families now choose to celebrate their loved one's life in a more personal way, sometimes asking guests to wear bright colours, a favourite football shirt, or an outfit that reflects the person's personality and passions.

If no dress code has been requested, smart, respectful clothing is always appropriate.

At YOLO Funeral Services, we believe every farewell should reflect the wishes of the individual and their family. Whether it's a traditional service or a colourful celebration of life, we're here to support you every step of the way.

Sometimes the most meaningful way to honour someone we've lost is through small acts of kindness.

Helping a neighbour, donating to a favourite charity or simply checking in on someone who may be struggling can be a wonderful way to keep a loved one's memory alive.

Kindness leaves a lasting legacy.

This year, Zoe had the privilege of conducting the School of Anatomy funerals, honouring those who made the incredibly generous decision to donate their bodies for medical and scientific teaching and research.

Each July, these funerals take place to remember and pay tribute to those who have chosen to make this remarkable final gift.

Body donation is an incredible act of kindness and plays an important role in the education and development of future medical professionals. It gives medical students invaluable opportunities to learn and develop their knowledge, which may ultimately benefit countless patients and support the future of our NHS.

These funerals provide an opportunity to recognise, respect and remember those who have given so generously.

It was a true honour for Zoe and YOLO Funeral Services to play a part in ensuring each person was treated with the dignity and respect they deserve.
