Time to recharge, reset and reconnect

Carers Week is a chance to recognise the incredible dedication of unpaid carers.

But it’s also a reminder that you matter too.

If you need time to focus on your own family - especially during exam stress, graduation celebrations or the whirlwind of preparing a young person for university, our respite care service can help.

Home Instead Care Professionals support your loved one with kindness, routine and reassurance, giving you the space to recharge and return feeling renewed.

Spotlight: How to build a dementia friendly community?

Creating a dementia friendly community starts with small, meaningful actions.

Here are four ways we can make our area a place where older adults feel understood and included:
1. Raise awareness and understanding
2. Make public spaces easier to navigate
3. Train local organisations and businesses
4. Offer inclusive, social activities

We have an ageing population, and if we work together, we can make our community a wonderful place to age.

If you’re a local organisation passionate about this, please contact us using the details below.

This Carers Week, we’re celebrating the incredible dedication of family carers who give so much of themselves every day. At Home Instead, we stand proudly beside you.

We run regular dementia information sessions and community drop ins available to anyone who is interested in finding out about care options. These sessions also help carers understand conditions that affect older adults, giving them the tools and confidence to continue their caring role. And when a break is needed, our respite care service offers peace of mind.

Dementia is an umbrella term for a range of progressive neurological disorders, including Alzheimer's disease, vascular dementia, and frontotemporal dementia. Chloe, our Trainer, has totally brought this to life in our training room this week!

We're excited for this to prompt questions, reiterate understanding and create something memorable during our training. What do you think? 💚

This month, we're exploring the benefits of staying active as we age.

As we age, regular movement plays a key role in maintaining independence.

Gentle activity supports mobility, reduces stiffness, and helps older adults feel more confident moving around their home and community.

Our Care Professionals encourage safe, steady activity that fits each person’s ability, whether that’s a short walk, attending a local group, or simply keeping up with everyday tasks. With the right support, staying active becomes part of a normal routine rather than something to worry about.

Keeping active helps people stay independent for longer.

Wow, what an award show!

We are so proud whenever our Care Professionals are nominated, so it was wonderful when Odette was put forward for the Newcomer Award.

And then she went on to WIN it!

To make it even better, Alisha from our Swindon team also took home the Student Award that night.

A huge well done to everyone who was nominated, and a massive thank you to OACP (Oxfordshire Association of Care Providers) for organising such a great event!

Belonging matters at every age

For many older LGBTQ+ adults, Pride Month is a reminder of the progress they’ve seen and the challenges they’ve lived through.

At Home Instead Oxford, we make sure care reflects each person’s identity, relationships, and lived experience. Whether we’re supporting someone at home, helping them attend community activities, or providing companionship, our approach is always respectful and inclusive.

Everyone deserves to feel they belong at home, in their community, and in their care.

We’ve been watching the BBC’s Caring Matters week programming, including Natalie Cassidy: Caring Together, and it’s brilliant to see care being given this much national attention.

At Home Instead Oxford, so many of our Care Professionals began their journey while caring for someone close to them, so these stories really resonate.

If you get a chance, it’s well worth a watch!
