Birth Baby Balance

Birth Baby Balance Guidance, support and information through pregnancy, birth and early parenthood.

Sarah, Charlotte, Kirsten, and Lucy are birth and postnatal doulas, passionate about supporting women through their pregnancies, labours and transitions into motherhood. We also provide antenatal education classes, breathing for labour classes, baby massage classes, postnatal pilates classes, placenta encapsulation and breastfeeding support. We have produced an audio download of Visualisations for Labour, to help pregnant women learn to breathe and relax effectively when the time comes.

So excited for this lovely group as their journey into parenthood gets ever closer (the first baby is due in 2 weeks!). It has been so much fun teaching them, and I am excited to hear their news as the babies come along.

If you’re pregnant and live in or near West Oxfordshire, our next course starts on 26th August. It is suitable for anyone due between early November and late December. We also have 2 courses coming up later in the year for Jan/Feb babies.

Really excited to incorporate these beautiful posters into my classes, both tonight when I’m teaching about infant feeding, and in future when labour is on the agenda. Who doesn’t love a good visual aid!

Thank you to Hannah for the beautiful pieces you make.

The birth ball is a great tool to use in labour for comfort, movement, support and to enable upright birth. Your birth partner can get involved, or you can find your own ways to use it alone.

If you live in or near West Oxfordshire, and want to find out more about having an active birth, come and join my antenatal classes!

If your baby is due in Nov or Dec, I have a 6 week course in Witney starting 26th August, which has just 3 spaces left! Grab one of them now and come and get informed!

I’ve really been missing teaching over the summer months, and can’t wait to get back to baby massage at the end of August. Our morning classes filled up super quickly, so I’ve put on another course, and it is almost full - only 4 spaces left!

It’s a great way to connect and bond with your baby, understand their needs and cues better, and have some time playing and engaging with each other. It also gives you tools to use at home, if they are unsettled or uncomfortable.

You’ll also meet a fabulous group of other mums with babies of a similar age, giving you the chance to expand your friendship group and support network.

If you’d like to be part of the action then grab your spot quickly before they all go!

You can find out more about the course, and book your place, here: www.birthbabybalance.co.uk/baby-massage

See you in 3 weeks!

Our Friday morning Baby Group is an air conditioned, calm, welcoming haven, held every Friday morning from 10.30-12.00 at the Part and Parcel pub in the centre of Witney, Oxon.
It is a great first group to come to with your new baby, as you don’t need to book in advance, it doesn’t matter what time you arrive, and it is only for babies under one, so there are no over-enthusiastic toddlers running around with wheeled toys and snotty noses!
Just turn up, and be welcomed by Sarah or Lucy and the other mums there. We would absolutely love to see you!

I wear many hats!

When someone asks me what I do, the easiest response is to say I'm a birth worker, but not everyone understands what that means.

If I break it down, I can tell them I’m:
- a doula
- an antenatal educator
- a hypnobirthing instructor
- a placenta encapsulator
- a baby massage teacher
- a provider of Closing the Bones ceremonies
- and that I run 2 baby groups each week.

Phew!

But it's not often that I pack so many of those jobs into less than 2 days 🤣

We’ve been holding our weekly Walk and Talk group since 2020, when we weren’t allowed to meet indoors because of Covid restrictions. It proved popular, so we’ve kept it going.

It is well known that getting outside, having some fresh air and exercise, is beneficial to maternal mental health. Having a baby can be lonely, boring, restrictive and overwhelming. Being in nature, especially with other people, can help to calm the nervous system and enable you to relax. And your baby’s cries don’t sound nearly so loud in the great outdoors!

We usually have between 5 and 10 walkers each week, with babies ranging in age from a few weeks to over a year. It can be great to pick the brains of those with older babies if yours is still little.

Our walks are pram friendly and gentle. We usually walk for between 45 and 60 mins, and where possible we end at a coffee shop or pub, so the talking can continue over a cuppa.

We have a dedicated WhatsApp group where we announce the location of the walk each Sunday, and then if you’d like to join us then you simply need to book your place on our website by 6pm on the Monday night.

Many baby groups and activities close during the school summer holidays, but we know how stranded this can make new parents feel, so we run our group continuously from Feb-Dec (no-one seems to want to walk in Jan!).

Find out more, join the WhatsApp group, and book your place for an upcoming walk, here: https://www.birthbabybalance.co.uk/walking-and-talking-groups

A local mum, who I taught antenatal classes to not so long ago, has been in touch asking us to share a link for a survey she is conducting.

She says:
"Having come up against difficulties around returning to work / childcare / workspace - I am investigating a new concept which would combine flexible childcare with a co-working space, and I'm trying to gather as much feedback as possible from local parents before taking it too much further.

It's aimed at parents and expectant parents and takes around 20 minutes to complete. The feedback will be invaluable in helping understand whether this is something families would genuinely use."

If you are willing/able to help her out by completing the survey, please do so here:

We are exploring a new concept designed to better support modern families. The idea combines high quality childcare, flexible workspace, community, family support and other services that may help parents balance work and family life. The survey is aimed at expectant parents and parents of pre-school...
