💙 Introducing Well-being Wednesday at Sylvian Care 💙

We’re excited to announce the launch of our new monthly Well-being Wednesday sessions for our amazing carers! đŸ«¶

Our carers work incredibly hard every day, supporting the people we care for with compassion, dedication and kindness. We wanted to create a regular opportunity for our team to take a little time for themselves.

Once a month, our carers will be invited to pop in for:

đŸ„Ș Lunch together
☕ A cuppa and a chat
💬 A chance to catch up and share experiences
😊 A relaxed space to unwind
❀ Time to connect with the wider team

Our very first Well-being Wednesday is coming up, and we can’t wait to welcome our carers in for some food, conversation and a well-deserved break.

Because at Sylvian Care, caring for our carers is just as important as caring for the people we support. 💙

There is a damaging idea in care that being committed means always saying yes.

Taking extra calls. Missing breaks. Accepting constant rota changes. Putting your own wellbeing last.

But exhausted Care Professionals cannot provide their best care indefinitely.

A healthy care culture should recognise that reliability works both ways. Clients need consistency, but Care Professionals also need enough stability to plan childcare, appointments, family time and rest.

Supporting wellbeing is not separate from delivering quality care. It is part of it.

When Care Professionals feel listened to, respected and able to manage their lives outside work, they are more likely to stay, develop and build lasting relationships with the people they support.

Sustainable care starts with treating the workforce sustainably.

Words shape how work is valued.
That is why we refer to our carers as Care Professionals.

Providing care at home involves far more than completing a list of tasks. It requires judgement, emotional intelligence, patience, responsibility and the ability to respond calmly when someone’s needs change.

Care Professionals build trust with clients and families. They notice small changes others may miss. They protect dignity, encourage independence and often become a reassuring constant in someone’s life.

Calling someone a Care Professional is not about changing a job title for the sake of it. It is about recognising the skill, responsibility and human impact behind the role.

Care should never be treated as “just a job”. The people delivering it deserve to be respected as professionals.

Hot weather can be particularly difficult for older people, especially those living alone or managing health conditions, medication or reduced mobility.

Small changes can make a real difference. From keeping the home cooler and encouraging regular drinks to adjusting daily routines and checking in more often, preparation is key.

Our hot weather home safety checklist shares practical steps families and carers can take to help an older person remain comfortable and safe during a heatwave.

The early signs are easy to explain away.

“They’re just tired.”
“They’ve always been a bit forgetful.”
“It’s probably nothing.”

But when small things start happening more often (missed medication, confusion, changes in routine) it’s usually a sign that a bit more support is needed.

In our experience, change is best when it’s not urgent, but gradual.
If you’ve started noticing those changes, it might be time to talk it through.

Care has a habit of becoming urgent before anyone feels ready.

That’s what makes it so overwhelming.

You’re suddenly making decisions without the time or headspace to think them through.

A little preparation now doesn’t mean acting straight away.

It just means when the moment comes, you’re not under pressure.

If you want to explore things early — even just lightly — we’re here.

Dehydration is one of those things that doesn’t always look obvious
 until it is.

Less energy. More confusion. Maybe a bit quieter than usual.

And often, it’s simply because drinking enough doesn’t feel as natural anymore.

A drink placed within reach. A gentle reminder. A routine around it.

It sounds small — but it can prevent much bigger problems.

If you’d like more practical ways to keep things steady this summer, we’re here.

Planning ahead gets misunderstood.

People think it means expecting the worst
or making big decisions too soon.

Actually, it’s the opposite.

It’s about giving yourself breathing room.
Time to think clearly.
Space to choose what feels right.

You don’t need all the answers — just a starting point.

If you want to talk things through without pressure, we’re here. 🧡

🏡 There’s no place like home.

More families are choosing live-in care as an alternative to residential care, allowing loved ones to remain in familiar surroundings while receiving dedicated, one-to-one support.

From maintaining independence to preserving routines and relationships, discover why live-in care is becoming the preferred choice for so many families across the UK.

“Who actually pays for care?”

It’s one of the most confusing parts — and one most families only look into when they have to.

By that point, everything already feels urgent.

The reality is, the system isn’t always as straightforward (or as supportive) as people expect.

Getting clarity early doesn’t mean committing to anything — it just means you won’t be caught off guard later.

If you’d like someone to walk you through it in plain English, we’re here.
