A diagnosis is often just the beginning.

Receiving an autism or ADHD diagnosis can bring enormous relief. For many people, it finally helps make sense of experiences that may have felt confusing for years.

But a diagnostic assessment can't always explore everything there is to know about you.

Many reports understandably focus on the evidence needed to reach a diagnosis. That means there isn't always time to fully explore your individual strengths, sensory profile, values, interests, coping strategies or what all of this means for your day-to-day life.

At Discover Difference, we offer Clinical Psychologist led one-off formulation consultations for people who have already received a diagnosis elsewhere.

Using your diagnostic report as a starting point, we'll work together to explore:
✨ your unique strengths and abilities
✨ your sensory preferences and needs
✨ how your neurotype shows up in everyday life
✨ what helps you thrive (not just what you find difficult)
✨ practical ways to build on your strengths and support wellbeing

Our aim isn't to repeat your assessment. It's to help you develop a richer understanding of yourself beyond the diagnosis.

Whether your assessment was through the NHS, Right to Choose or an independent clinic, we'd love to help you continue that journey of self-understanding.

Because a diagnosis explains *what*.

Understanding *you* is where the journey continues. 💚

🌿 A little note for families considering an autism and/or ADHD assessment.

We currently have a child assessment appointment available on Monday 13th July with our lovely Clinical Psychologist, Claire.

For families hoping to complete the assessment process before schools close for the summer, we need to begin gathering school information soon.

As part of a thorough assessment, we ask teachers to share their observations and complete questionnaires so that we can understand how your child experiences different environments and to make specific recommendations for your child in that setting. With the end of term approaching, these forms need to be sent to schools now to give them enough time to respond before the summer break.

We also offer post diagnosis support for parents and for adults.

If you have been thinking about an assessment and would like this completed before the next term, please do get in touch. You can book an appointment online from our website. Any questions- please email us at [email protected] 🌿

Discover Difference Psychology Clinic offers specialist Autism and ADHD assessments. We have clinics online, in Southampton (Hampshire), London, Wallingford (Oxfordshire) and Wokingham (Berkshire).

We are excited (and a little emotional!) to finally share something that has been in development behind the scenes....

Introducing PDA Compass!

A new project created by the founder of Discover Difference (Dr Sophie Hughes) and a fellow Clinical Psychologist (Dr Natasha Holden) which aims to bring together our professional experience as clinicians and our own personal experiences of parenting and living alongside PDA.

PDA Compass combines:
🌱 Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT)
🌱 Trauma-informed approaches
🌱 Clinical psychology knowledge
🌱 Neurodiversity-affirming practice
🌱 Lived experience

Inside you will find psychology-led resources, reflective tools, deep dive videos, regulation support and a compassionate community of parents walking a similar path.

Our hope is that PDA Compass becomes a place where families feel less alone, more understood, and supported to find their own way forward.

We would love for you to come and take a look:

June Appointments Remaining

At Discover Difference, we believe neurodevelopmental assessments deserve time, care, curiosity, and nuance.

Assessment should never feel like a tick-box exercise.

Many people arrive at assessment having spent months—or years—researching, reflecting, questioning, and trying to understand themselves or their child. We value that lived experience and see it as an important part of the assessment process alongside our clinical expertise.

Our Clinical Psychologist-led assessments are designed to explore the whole picture. We take time to understand developmental history, strengths, differences, challenges, and context. We recognise that autism and ADHD can present in many different ways, and that every individual is unique.

Just as importantly, we are not afraid to say when we don't believe a neurodevelopmental diagnosis is the best explanation. A thorough assessment should remain open-minded throughout the process, following the evidence wherever it leads.

Whether the outcome is a diagnosis or not, our aim is that individuals and families leave with greater understanding, clarity, and practical recommendations.

We currently have:

⭐ 1 child assessment appointment remaining in June

⭐ 3 adult assessment appointments remaining in June

We also offer post-diagnostic support for both adults and parents, helping people make sense of their profile and move forward with confidence and self-compassion.

We have a clinic in Stroud, Wokingham and Southampton but focus on keeping our clinic small and bespoke rather than completing high volume assessments. We carefully select our clinicians, many of whom have lived experience or family experience of neurodivergence.

Discover Difference Psychology Clinic is now offering Neurodivergent Workplace Profiler Consultation with Dr Katy Stevens, Clinical Psychologist. https://www.discoverdifference.co.uk/dr-katy-stevens
We are offering a strengths-based consultation for neurodivergent adults navigating work, burnout, and reasonable adjustments.
Many neurodivergent people don’t burn out because they aren’t capable —
they burn out because their workplace isn’t designed for how their nervous system works.
This specialist consultation offers a calm, structured space to understand:
- how you work best
- what drains you at work (even when you appear “high functioning”)
- and what reasonable adjustments would genuinely support your wellbeing and performance
What this consultation includes
- A 90-minute one-to-one consultation with a highly experienced Clinical Psychologist
- A collaborative exploration of:
- your workplace strengths and energy profile
- burnout patterns and early warning signs
- specific challenges related to neurodivergence, sensory load, communication, or executive functioning
- Practical mapping of reasonable workplace adjustments, prioritised for impact
- A written Workplace Profiler Summary / Employer Letter, translating insights into clear, professional language suitable for HR, managers, or occupational health
This is not a performance assessment or fitness-to-work evaluation.
It is a supportive, strengths-based profiler designed to help you advocate for the conditions you need to thrive — without over-disclosing or minimising yourself.
Who this is for
- Autistic, ADHD, or AuDHD adults
- Neurodivergent professionals experiencing burnout or near-burnout
- People who know they are capable, but exhausted by masking or misfit
- Those preparing to request reasonable adjustments or return to work
What you’ll leave with
- Clarity about your strengths and limits
- Language to explain your needs with confidence
- A written summary you can use with your employer
- Reduced self-blame and increased self-trust
Consultations are held online. A limited number of places are available -please email us to find out more [email protected]
