Sometimes, the biggest impact isn't made through treatment. It's made through sharing knowledge.

Recently, Raj from Therapies on Thames visited Glebefields & Chacombe Park Care Home to deliver a Falls Prevention Talk for their team. The session focused on recognising fall risks, understanding the difference between witnessed and unwitnessed falls and the important role carers play in helping older adults stay safe and independent.

It was fantastic to see such great engagement throughout the session, with plenty of discussion and shared experiences. Supporting care teams with practical knowledge is just as important as supporting the people they care for.

A huge thank you to everyone at Glebefields & Chacombe Park Care Home for the warm welcome and for taking the time to share this wonderful feedback. We're proud to support care providers in improving outcomes for older adults.

When people think about rehabilitation, they often picture treatment after an injury or illness. However, some of the most valuable work therapists do is helping people avoid problems before they become life-changing.

Small changes in balance, mobility or strength can develop gradually. Left unaddressed, they may increase the risk of falls, reduce confidence and make everyday activities more difficult. Recognising these early signs gives people the opportunity to take positive action before their independence is affected.

Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy aren't only about helping people recover. They also play an important role in maintaining mobility, improving function and supporting people to continue living safely and independently for as long as possible. This proactive approach can benefit older adults, those managing long-term health conditions and anyone noticing changes that are beginning to affect daily life.

As healthcare continues to focus on prevention, rehabilitation professionals have an increasingly important role to play. Helping people stay active, confident and independent isn't just beneficial for the individual. It also supports families, carers and the wider health and social care system.

Sometimes the best intervention isn't responding to a problem. It's preventing one from happening in the first place.

This week, Raj delivered a falls prevention and functional rehabilitation talk at Bickerton House Care UK, bringing together residents, families, carers, nurses, therapists and wider health and social care professionals.

The session created an opportunity to share experiences, discuss challenges and explore how we can continue supporting people to maintain their confidence, independence and quality of life.

A key message throughout the session was the importance of delivering rehabilitation at the right time, with the right focus and with goals that are meaningful to the individual.

Experiences like this highlight why therapy-led approaches are so important in supporting people to live as independently as possible.

A huge thank you to Bickerton House for having us, it was a pleasure to share knowledge, hear personal experiences and continue working collaboratively towards better outcomes for residents 💙

We are proud to announce a new partnership between Therapies on Thames and Winchcombe Place Care Home in Newbury.

Through this partnership, our specialist physiotherapists and occupational therapists will work directly with residents and the Winchcombe Place team to support mobility, independence and day-to-day wellbeing.

Every new resident will receive a complimentary initial assessment, helping both teams understand their individual mobility and rehabilitation needs from the outset. The partnership will also include ongoing clinical oversight, regular falls and mobility assessments, group exercise and information sessions, and hands-on training for care colleagues.

By sharing expertise across both teams, rehabilitation support can become part of everyday care, rather than being limited to individual therapy appointments.

We look forward to working alongside Winchcombe Place to help residents remain active, confident and as independent as possible.

From a difficult setback to progress beyond expectations 💙

Following a hip and wrist fracture, one family got in touch with Therapies on Thames to find the right rehabilitation support for their mother at home.

After contacting several physiotherapy providers, they found our team to be the easiest to reach and the smoothest to arrange care with. Claire helped organise an appointment within days and, importantly, made sure regular home visits could be provided.

From there, Simon began supporting her rehabilitation at home. Through consistent physiotherapy, encouragement and a patient approach, he helped rebuild her confidence and support her recovery step by step.

Her family told us that her progress has been better than they could ever have imagined:

⭐ “Simon has been the most incredible physio and has helped enormously with my mother’s rehab. We are so grateful for his excellent and invaluable help and would recommend him to anyone needing rehabilitation after a fracture.”

A huge thank you to the family for sharing such thoughtful feedback. It means a great deal to Simon, Claire and the whole Therapies on Thames team.

We had a fantastic day recently capturing some professional photos of our physiotherapists working with residents in care home settings.

It was lovely to see the care, encouragement and variety that goes into each session, with exercises adapted to suit different needs, abilities and confidence levels.

From gentle movement and balance work to strength, mobility and rehabilitation exercises, our team supports residents in a way that feels safe, personal and achievable.

Falls prevention is a key part of supporting older adults to remain safe, mobile and independent at home.

Raj recently delivered Falls Prevention Training for the care team at Walfinch Care Kingston and Weybridge, covering areas such as risk factors, strength and balance, environmental risk assessment, safe mobility support and practical prevention strategies.

“Extremely informative, practical, and relevant to our roles in supporting older adults living in their own homes.”

It was great to hear that the session helped increase the team’s confidence in identifying risks, applying preventative measures and supporting safer, person-centred care.

A valuable reminder of the importance of practical training for carers and support teams working with older adults every day.
