Direct Cremation: Simple Doesn’t Mean Thoughtless

It’s becoming a more popular choice - and it’s easy to see why. It’s often described as no-fuss and more affordable.

But it’s not always that simple.

There are still decisions to make, questions to ask, and things to consider.

“Cheaper” isn’t guaranteed.
You don’t have to use a big company.
And you might not always be told when the cremation takes place.

Most importantly - direct cremation doesn’t mean you can’t have a ceremony.

You can still gather. Still tell stories. Still honour a life in a way that feels right.

Because ritual matters. Community matters. And grief doesn’t disappear just because a funeral doesn’t happen.

Sometimes “simple” is about avoiding something difficult - but that doesn’t always make it easier.

If it’s something you’re thinking about, talk about it. Be clear about your wishes, but also consider the people who will be left behind - they may still need a moment to say goodbye.

There’s no right or wrong here.
