Doulas support Dads and partners too.

As a Doula I do not only provide support to the birthing person but also to their partner.

Doulas are not there to replace the primary birth partner ( when there is one). A doula provides support to the family unit. The role of the birth partner and doula should complement each other.

Other benefits of a doula to the primary birthing partner:

- Help to build confidence in birth process

- Practical support

- Provide relief to enable birth partner to experience childbirth with the birthing person to the fullest

- Additional post partum support

What is normal and what commonly happen are two very different things.

and Doula Grace Hall] - The Birthing Tree.

✊🏿On the last day of the Black Maternal Health awareness week I would like to uplift all Black and Brown birth workers and recognise your importance for the birthing experience of families.

🤰🏾Despite of medicalisation of birth, a major aspect of the parenting journey, is the need for respect, advocacy and humanisation of labour (birthing individuals are not just one more statistic - they are humans with memories, physical and emotional feelings).

♥️Black birth workers bring ritualisation and support embedded with ancestral traditions adapted to contemporary living to the parenting journey of ALL families.

🤰🏾We are experienced mothers, we are daughters, sisters and educated women in our communities. We are in the frontline for humanised and respectful maternal health.

♥️Birth and postpartum are normal events that are around us everyday since we were young, as a rite of passage deserving protection, nurture, celebration and habilitation for this special new role of welcoming and raising new humans in their families and world.

🤰🏾I would so much like to thank all black and brown birth workers since the legacy of that is rooted in dignifying labour, birth, lactation and counselling families during their journeys.

♥️Together, we can make a positive change to birthing experiences. Together, we can be the change.

You can and will birth well.

☎️Doula On-call

I'm officially on call now for my April Mama and I'm going to roughly be on call up till mid July, with a birth client each month.

So what does it mean to be on-call?

🗓My on-call period starts from 10 days before the estimated due date until when baby is born.

🏃🏿‍♀️To be on-call means to be available 24/7 and ready to leave to support at a birth at any moment.

🔊My phone charged, always on and volume up.

👜My on- call bag is packed.

🚫I don't travel more than 1-1.5hrs away from my client.

I have made adequate childcare. arrangements (Thank you to my Hubby, sisters, in-laws and parents)

Being on-call is indeed a commitment but I wouldn't have it any other way. This gives parents the security they need to ensure when the time comes I will be ready and there to support come night or day
