When Kate first joined GPT, she was nervous about walking into another gym environment.

Like many people, she’d joined gyms before, been shown around, and then largely left to figure things out for herself.

One thing she said during our recent chat really stood out:

“I wouldn’t go into the weights section because it was full of men.”

She didn’t feel confident.
She wasn’t sure what she was doing.
And she never really pushed herself because she was left to her own devices.

Then a friend encouraged her to come and try a session.

“I was hooked from the first session.”

Not because it was easy.

In fact, she said she was exhausted.

But for the first time, she felt supported, coached, and shown exactly what to do.

Fast forward to today and she’s stronger than she’s ever been.

As she put it:

“I actually miss my PT sessions when I’m away.”

For someone who used to join gyms and struggle to stick with them, that’s a huge shift.

Sometimes the biggest transformation isn’t just getting stronger.

It’s finally finding something you genuinely enjoy enough to keep doing.

As summer holidays get closer, it’s easy to focus on how we look.

And there’s nothing wrong with wanting to feel more confident in your body.

But after years of coaching, I’ve realised most people are chasing something deeper than that…

The ability to walk further.
Move more freely.
Join in.
Keep up.
Explore.
Say yes to experiences.

Because when your body feels stronger and more capable, life tends to open up a little more.

And that’s what all of this is really about.

The whole “broken metabolism” conversation comes up quite a bit in coaching conversations.

Especially with women in their 30s, 40s and 50s.

And honestly, it’s understandable why.

Fat loss can feel harder.
Energy can feel lower.
Hunger can change.
Stress is usually higher.
And life generally becomes a lot more demanding.

But usually, it’s not that your body has suddenly stopped working.

You’re just no longer playing the same game you were in your 20s.

That’s why the answer is rarely:
extreme diets,
punishing workouts,
or trying to “fix” yourself quickly.

Most people need:
more movement,
maintaining muscle mass,
better recovery,
simple habits,
and enough consistency for those things to actually work over time.

It’s easy to think progress only counts when the scales change.

But for a lot of adults, some of the biggest improvements happen long before that.

More energy.
Less stiffness.
Better movement.
Feeling stronger.
Recovering quicker.
Feeling more confident physically again.

Those things matter too.

And usually, they’re the things that help people stay consistent long enough to create lasting change.

Since joining GPT in September 2025, Here are a few things she’s said since starting:

“I hadn’t stepped foot in a gym for 24 years.”

“I’m definitely the strongest I’ve felt in at least 20 years.”

“I wouldn’t push myself like this if I wasn’t here.”

“Not once have I not come because of my back.”

“I like the personalised nature of it, but still being in a small group.”

A lot can change when people start feeling confident in their body again.

Things can change quite a lot when people start feeling confident in their body again.

Not just physically, but in how they move, how they feel day to day, and the confidence they carry into everyday life.

Many think they need to train harder and harder to get results.

More workouts.
More cardio.
More intensity.

But most people massively underestimate how much the smaller things matter.

Daily movement.
Sleep.
Recovery.
Consistency.
Strength training done well.

For most adults, you don’t need to live in the gym.

You need a routine that works with your life well enough to actually stick to it long term.

For most adults, the hardest part about starting isn’t the exercise.

It’s finding an environment where they feel comfortable enough to keep coming back.

Somewhere they’re coached properly.
Somewhere they can move without feeling judged, intimidated, or left behind.

That’s what we try to create here every day.

Smaller sessions where people don’t get lost in the crowd.

Coaches who know who they’re coaching.

Real conversations.

Coaching that meets people where they’re at.

And training that fits around real life.

Because feeling stronger is important.

But actually enjoying the process matters too.

“I deserve it.”

It’s something many people quietly tell themselves after:

* a long day
* a hard workout
* looking after everyone else
* constantly being on the go

And to be honest, it makes sense.

Over time, many of us start associating effort with needing a food reward.

But sometimes the very thing we’re using as the “reward”…

is also the thing pulling us further away from how we truly want to feel:

* more energised
* healthier
* sleeping better
* more confident
* more in control of our habits

This doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy foods you love.

That’s part of life.

But it is worth asking yourself from time to time:

“Is this actually getting me closer to how I want to feel…
or further away from it?”

Because real self-care isn’t always about giving ourselves more of what feels good in the moment.

A lot of the time…

it’s about giving ourselves what we genuinely need long term.

22/05/2026

“I need something while I relax.”

It’s a phrase so many of us can relate to…

especially at the end of a long day.

But sometimes it’s not actually hunger.

Sometimes it’s just that we’ve slowly built a habit of pairing relaxation with eating.

You finally stop.
Sit down.
Start to switch off.
And almost automatically, your brain starts looking for:
something sweet…
something crunchy…
something comforting.

Not because your body necessarily needs food…

but because the routine has become familiar.

And over time, those patterns can start feeling automatic.

This isn’t about never enjoying food.

It’s about remembering that relaxation can also look like:

* going for a walk
* reading
* listening to music
* having quiet time
* getting an early night
* simply giving your body and mind proper rest.

Because food can absolutely be part of enjoyment…

but it doesn’t have to become the only way we know how to switch off.
