Think about that song that gives you goosebumps every single time.
The one that makes you turn the volume up, close your eyes, sing at the top of your lungs or dance around the kitchen like nobodyโs watching.
I absolutely love how music can do that.
A rhythm catches your attention. Your foot starts tapping. Your shoulders begin to move. You might notice your breathing changing with the pace of the music.
Then thereโs that incredible moment when a piece of music brings back a memory so vividly that you can almost feel yourself back there.
Music can be such a powerful part of an experience. Dancing with friends, catching each otherโs eye across the room, laughing when you both recognise the first few seconds of a song. Those moments of connection can stay with you long after the music stops.
Itโs something I find particularly interesting when working with breath, movement and myofascial unwinding. The music we choose can influence the atmosphere, the pace and how people experience a session. It can invite us to explore a movement, follow a gentle sway or take our time noticing what feels comfortable.
With myofascial unwinding, thereโs no choreography to get right. Movement can be small, slow and led by sensation. Music can accompany that exploration, while leaving room for each person to find their own pace.
Everyone responds differently, of course. A song that makes one person feel emotional might make someone else want to dance.
Thatโs what I love about it.
Thereโs something wonderful about watching a room full of people respond to the same music in completely different ways. Someone is moving quietly with their eyes closed. Friends are dancing together. Another person is simply listening.
For me, music brings another dimension to the work we do at Bodhi & Breath. I honestly canโt imagine some of our experiences without it.
