Weight loss jabs or GLP-1’s are still very much a hot topic with news reports or new research being dropped each week, either highlighting another game changing benefit or pointing out hidden dangers that we didn’t know about before.
As always, it’s important to make sure that any information we consume on these drugs, is from legitimate sources, and if considering using them that you are under guidance from a medical professional who is continually monitoring you.

Below are some key considerations:

🔷 long term use generally yields sustained weight loss and improved glycemic control, which is why they are used by diabetic patients.

🔷 observational data indicates that GLP-1s have cardio protective effects and lower the risk of kidney injury.

🔷 most common long term side effects of usage are chronic nausea, vomiting, constipation and diarrhoea (not great for the pelvic floor and core)

🔷 rapid and extensive weight loss can also include muscle depletion and therefore muscle weakness and frailty UNLESS you undertake a full body resistance training program. Fitness professionals can support you with this and ensure you are doing the right things in the right way.

🔷 requires long-term commitment as discontinuation from treatment has shown the majority of weight that was lost being regained. Following a good exercise regime and proper nutritional advice could help abate this.

🔷 ensure that treatment does not impact any other medication that you are taking.

🔷 big financial commitment particularly as this will be long term.

🔷 only source treatment from a responsible, registered medical professional and not off social media sites providing medication at a discounted rate. DO YOUR RESEARCH.

This makes such encouraging reading especially as my own daughter received her vaccination this year (on her birthday in fact). It is something that I wish was available to me when I was younger.

What's even better is that boys are also being vaccinated which protects them from certain cancers also.

For those 25yrs and over its still very important to go for your cervical smears and if you have children who will be offered the vaccine when they turn 12-13yrs or they have missed it for whatever reason, I'd highly recommend booking an appointment.

A new study finds that hundreds of lives have been saved since school-age girls were offered the HPV jab in 2008.

Massage therapy has this label of being 'just for special occasions' or a one off treat now and then, when really it should be a big part of your health and wellness agenda.

I don't think I need to explain to you the benefits but in case you needed reminding, here they are:

⭐︎ reduced pain, muscle soreness and tension
⭐︎ improved circulation, energy and alertness
⭐︎ lowered heart rate and blood pressure
⭐︎ improved immune function and therefore less illness
⭐︎ decreased stress and increased relaxation

Want less pain, a healthier more mobile body and improved mental health? Take a look at my availability this month and book in to start feeling and moving better!

I'm very peeved to see that the Old Malden Resident's Facebook Group admin decided to remove my post on my FREE class for cancer patients from their page because 'local business's can only post on the 1st weekend of the month'

The class starts this Wednesday and I repeat the class is FREE!! I'm using my own time, at NO CHARGE, to provide help and support to people who need it.

To top it off the admin seems to have blocked my messages and posts for an explanation (note - I've not made any complaints to him prior to this about this subject).

Would really appreciate anyone who lives locally and is part of the group to complain to Simeon Linstead who 'runs' the group.

Hello all! I hope you're enjoying your long weekend!

I will be starting a free monthly class from June, suitable for those who are currently or have recently completed treatment for breast or gynaecological cancers.

The 45 minute class will take place from 11-11.45am at the Worcester Park Baptist Church on the 1st Wednesday of every month (unless it is the Christmas or New Year holidays)

It will focus mainly on improving shoulder and hip mobility, 2 areas of the body most commonly affected by surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy or hormone therapy. It will also include some simple strengthening exercises to help support the muscles and bones around major joints.

Exercise / movement has become an integral part of helping to manage the side effects of treatment but it will also provide a sense of control during a time when things are overwhelming.

Booking will be required each month, with a maximum of 20 places available. Please contact me via [email protected] for questions or to book your place.

Such positive news! Anything that can improve treatment time and therefore quality of life is great.
