Dr Anna Gregory, who has devoted her career to caring for children and supporting families through some of their most difficult moments, never imagined she would one day find herself on the other side – as a patient.

Anna had been due to take part in last year’s Worcester City Runs event, but just two weeks before the race her plans were suddenly changed after receiving a breast cancer diagnosis.

Anna said: “I have spent my life helping others through challenging times, I never thought I would be the one facing a breast cancer diagnosis, navigating uncertainty, relying on the care of my colleagues.”

Anna received her treatment at Worcestershire Royal Hospital where she works – an experience she describes as both humbling and deeply moving.

She said: “Being treated by the same teams I work alongside gave me a completely new perspective. I witnessed first-hand the extraordinary dedication, expertise and compassion that goes into every patient’s care. They were there for me at every stage, not just as healthcare professionals, but as a constant source of reassurance, guidance and understanding during some of the most difficult times of my life, helping both me and my family face the unknown with strength and hope.”

Now, Anna is determined to give something back. Supported by her husband Chris, family, friends and colleagues, a team of 18 will take to streets of Worcester on Sunday 13 September to run either the Worcester Half Marathon or Worcester 10K as part of Team Worcestershire Acute.

Together they are raising funds to support breast care services across Worcestershire, with a particular focus on enhancing care for patients undergoing chemotherapy, so that other patients can continue to receive the same compassionate, holistic support that meant so much to Anna and Chris.

Anna is now calling on the wider Worcestershire community to support the cause. Any donation, no matter how small, will help to make a real difference and ensure others facing a breast cancer diagnosis receive the same level of care, kindness and support that meant so much to Anna and her family.
