Those of you who know Douglas know that at this time of year we have to battle EMS flare ups, which are hard to manage due to his restricted workload due to annular ligament desmitis amd his love of knocking fencing down to get to grass 🤦‍♀️

This morning after a gentle 30 minute in hand session of walk and trot work I offered Douglas some herbs to try and help support him.

He was offered...

🩵 Hawberry powder, which can improve circulation, boost immunity, and aid digestion, laminitis, EMS and cushings.

🩵 Milk Thistle, which supports liver health, detoxification, energy metabolism and has anti-inflammatory properties

🩵 Rosehip powder, which can improve immunity, aid cell repair, contains biotin and vitamin C

🩵 Dandelion root, which can aid with detoxification, digestive issues and pain relief and also acts as a liver tonic.

🩵 Wheatgrass powder, which supports a healthy metabolism, is rice in vitamins and minerals, decreases blood sugars, and promotes healthy bacteria in the gut.

Of all the herbs offered Douglas took the dandelion root, wheatgrass powder, rosehip powder and a little of the milk thistle.

Once he had taken all he wanted he went back out in the field with his friends, after a quick hello with Tiny he came back to me. I offered some gentle energy healing which he took for about 5 mins before heading back off to Tiny.

It’s been a busy few weeks here at Centaur Equine Massage Training 🐴

We’ve been running a number of private student training days alongside our horse owner massage workshops. The owner workshops, in particular, have been incredibly popular recently. It’s lovely to help owners develop new skills they can use to support and connect with their own horses.

Our students have also been working hard on their coursework, which means the assessments are arriving thick and fast! It’s fantastic to see such dedication to their studies and such a high standard of work being submitted.

And finally… we’ve very excitingly added another four legs to the Centaur herd!....

Please welcome Mardlebrook Titan (“Tiny Titan”).

Standing at an impressive 32 inches tall 😂 he is officially the smallest member of the herd so far. Once he has fully settled in and gained a little confidence, he’ll be joining Doug and Diamond in helping guide students through their training days at our main Worcestershire training venue.

INDUSRTY UPDATE

As you’re all aware, DEFRA has been working towards a reform of the Veterinary Surgeons Act. We wanted to give you a brief update as to where we are at the moment. Following the gathering of data and views from the different stakeholders in the summer (which we took part in in London), DEFRA issued an initial eight-week public consultation in January, to gain responses on their initial proposals. DEFRA also invited stakeholders to participate in 1:1 interviews, which we have taken part in, to gather further feedback. We want to reassure you that not only are these changes still in the very early stages, and therefore nothing will be changing for allied healthcare professionals at the moment, but also that both us and other stakeholders are insuring that the voice of all level of practitioners is heard, so that when changes do eventually come into effect, the livelihood of practitioners who are currently in practice will be safeguarded. Please do not worry about how the changes will affect you. For now, the main legislation is focussing on veterinary surgeons, veterinary nurses and the big corporate groups which own veterinary practices. If and when the reform happens, it will most likely include a transition period to allow for all professions to find their place under the new system. In the meantime, IAAT is committed to cooperating with DEFRA and RCVS to help make sure that any legislative changes will protect our Member’s ability to practice.

Today marks 16 years since Douglas joined the family.

He has been guiding students through their studies ever since we launched Centaur Equine Massage Training 9 years ago.

To celebrate Douglas, as well as Centaur Equine Massage Training turning 9 years old this week we are offering 10% off of enrolment on to our Holistic Equine Massage Practitioner course.

This offer will run until the end of the bank holiday weekend.

Yesterday was a lovely day at Witney Pony Partners for 2 of our practitioner course students.

We had some really fluffy ponies to work with who, as well as receiving massages also got help with shedding their winter coats (massage at this time of year is always a hairy job) 🤣

TB, Red had a lovely session and gained so much from his treatment. He was also very accommodating and helped our students learn about a very gentle hyoid release.

Starla also enjoyed a session tailored especially towards her needs, this involved very gentle hands on work in between gentle grooming which helped keep her settled. When she had taken all she needed she laid down for a snooze.

To finish the day we assessed a horse's saddle to see how the fit would be affecting her muscles.
