MENINGITIS B – PATIENT INFORMATION

You will be aware of the recent outbreak of Meningitis B in Kent. This has understandably caused concern and we have received several enquiries from our patients

The Meningitis B (MenB) vaccine has been part of the routine UK childhood immunisation schedule since 2015. This means most children born after 2015 will already have received it as part of their standard vaccinations. Those born before 2015 will not have received the vaccine routinely and are not currently eligible for it on the NHS. You can check your vaccination record through the NHS App.

For those who are not eligible for the vaccine on the NHS, it may be available privately through some pharmacies and travel clinics.

Meningitis B is an uncommon bacterial disease which can lead to a serious illness.

You should seek immediate medical attention if you or someone you know has any of the following symptoms:-
• A high fever with confusion
• Severe headache
• Neck stiffness
• A rash that does not fade when a glass is pressed against it (non blanching rash)

A MESSAGE FROM OUR DISPENSARY TEAM:-

During the Christmas period, we will only be closed on Thursday 25th and Friday 26th December and Thursday 1st January. Other than this we are open and will dispense medication as normal.

There will be no delivery on Friday 26th December.

This is a very busy time of year for us and we would therefore advise you to order your usual medication in good time.

You do not need to order any additional quantities of your medication as this will increase our already heavy workload during December.

We would also like to take the opportunity to remind you that we require a minimum of 3 working days to dispense repeat medication requests. Only medication issued by the GP that day will be dispensed the same day.

You can request that your repeat medication is put onto auto repeat meaning that you would not have to request these every month as they would automatically be dispensed for you when they are due. If you are interested, please speak to one of our Care Navigators or Dispensers.

Thank you for your patience & co-operation.

Just a reminder that we are holding our flu/COVID clinic tomorrow 9am-3pm so the surgery car park will be very busy. There is overflow parking available at The Talbot if you feel able to park there.
