🌿 Try this when you’re feeling stressed

Your breath is something you carry with you everywhere — and it can be a simple way to support your nervous system when life feels a little too much.

Try this:

🌬️ Inhale gently through your nose for 4 counts

🌬️ Exhale slowly for 6 counts

Repeat for 5 rounds.

Then pause for a moment and notice how you feel.

A slightly longer, slower exhale can encourage your body towards a more settled state by supporting the parasympathetic nervous system — the part of your nervous system associated with rest and recovery.

You don’t need to force your breath or take huge breaths.

Just breathe gently, comfortably and with curiosity.

Sometimes, a few intentional breaths are enough to create a little more space between what’s happening around you and how you respond to it. 🌿

🌿 Did you know massage can offer a controlled and predictable sensory experience?

Many people with ADHD experience differences in the way they process sensory information.

Sometimes the world can feel too much — sounds, lights, touch, people, conversations…

And sometimes it can feel like not enough, leaving you craving movement, touch or other forms of stimulation.

Massage can offer a controlled and predictable form of sensory input.

The pressure, rhythm and warmth of therapeutic touch can feel grounding for some people and may help create a greater sense of connection with the body.

But everyone's sensory preferences are different.

That's why I don't believe in a one-size-fits-all massage.

Pressure, pace, music, lighting, temperature, conversation and even how much touch you receive can all be adapted.

Your sensory needs are important.

✨ The benefits of massage don’t necessarily end when you leave the treatment room.

Many clients tell me they continue to notice the effects afterwards — feeling more relaxed, sleeping better, and having a greater sense of capacity to meet whatever the day brings.

I love hearing how a treatment can create a little more space in someone’s day, rather than simply being an hour of relaxation.

Thank you, Mal, for sharing your experience. I’m so pleased your massage gave you so much benefit. 💚

If you’d like to experience a holistic massage for yourself, I’d love to hear from you.

Meet Jo 🌿

One of the things I’ve become particularly passionate about through my own journey with my body is understanding the nervous system.

I’ve learnt that when we spend a lot of time in stress, pain or overwhelm, our bodies can become very good at staying on alert. We can find ourselves living in a kind of fight or flight mode without even realising it.

And when the body has been doing that for a long time, life can feel harder than it needs to.

This is one of the reasons I love working with massage, Reiki and breathwork.

These different practices can create opportunities for the nervous system to slow down and move towards a more relaxed rest and repair state.

And when we feel safer and more settled within ourselves, we have greater access to our inner resources.

More space to think.

More capacity to feel.

More ability to respond rather than simply react.

I know from personal experience that this doesn’t mean life suddenly becomes easy, or that our bodies stop communicating with us.

But when we learn to listen to those messages rather than constantly push through them, things can begin to change.

This is a huge part of why I do what I do.

I’m not here to fix your body.

I’m here to work alongside it — with curiosity, gentleness and respect — and create space for you to reconnect with yourself. 💚

✨ Reiki invites us to slow down.

Practised for generations as a way of restoring balance to body and mind, Reiki may be ancient in origin, but its wisdom feels more relevant than ever.

In our busy, screen-filled lives, taking time to pause, breathe and reconnect with ourselves can feel like a radical act.

Reiki offers a space to simply be.

To soften.

To listen inwardly.

To let go of some of the stress and busyness we carry.

Because healing doesn’t always have to be loud, intense or forceful.

Sometimes, the most powerful shifts happen quietly — in stillness, with gentle touch, and space to reconnect with yourself. 🌙

✨ Did you know massage can provide soothing sensory input for people with ADHD?

Some people with ADHD have a strong need for movement, touch or other forms of sensory stimulation.

Massage provides consistent, predictable sensory input through therapeutic touch.

For some people, this can feel deeply soothing and satisfying — giving the body the sensory input it has been looking for while creating an opportunity to slow down.

You don't have to be perfectly still during a massage.

If you need to move, adjust your position, scratch an itch, take a drink or change something about your treatment, please say so.

Your comfort matters more than staying still.

Sometimes all you need is the space to pause, breathe and reconnect with yourself. 💚

A one-to-one breathwork session is tailored entirely to you.
Whether we meet in my treatment room or online, we'll begin by gently exploring your current breathing patterns together. There is no judgement – just curiosity, kindness and an opportunity to understand how your breath is supporting you, or where it could support you more.

I'll teach you how to breathe more optimally, and we'll practise together before exploring what you need most right now.

Perhaps you're looking to:
✨ Reduce stress and anxiety
✨ Feel more relaxed
✨ Process grief or trauma
✨ Reset your mind and body
✨ Feel more grounded
✨ Gain clarity around a situation

From there, I'll create a personalised breathwork practice just for you. If we're meeting in person, you'll be invited to get comfortable under a cosy blanket while I gently guide and support you throughout the session. If we're online, you'll be guided with the same care from the comfort of your own home.

Each session lasts 75 minutes and is designed to give you practical tools that you can continue to use long after we finish.

If you'd like to find out more or book a session, I'd love to hear from you.

Every person who walks into my treatment room brings their own story, experiences, and needs.

That’s why I never believe in a “one size fits all” approach.

Holistic therapy should feel personal, supportive, and collaborative.

We work together with what your body needs that day 🤍

Before you walk through the door to my treatment room, I use a few pumps of Quietude, a gorgeous TempleSpa calming aromatherapy spray. This beautiful room fragrance is crafted from a blend of the most cocooning Mediterranean essential oils of cedarwood, cypress, lavender, clove, vetiver, orange, patchouli, frankincense and chamomile. It’s vegan and suitable for use during pregnancy.

I love this calming and restorative aroma, and so do my clients. I get so many comments about the lovely scent in the room. I have a bottle at home too and I use it every night in my bedroom to support my sleep.

I also sell TempleSpa products, so you can treat yourself to a gorgeous bottle of Quietude for yourself – just ask me and I’ll be delighted to order one for you.

💚 ADHD and finding calm in your body

Did you know that massage may be a supportive way to help manage some of the everyday challenges associated with ADHD?

Living with ADHD can sometimes feel like having a mind that won't switch off, a body that needs to keep moving, or emotions that arrive at full volume.

Finding moments of calm isn't always easy.

Massage offers dedicated time to pause, receive soothing touch and give your body a chance to rest. Some people find that this helps them feel more relaxed, grounded and connected to themselves.

It's not about forcing your mind to be quiet or making your body behave differently. It's about creating space where you can simply be.

At Flow Holistic Therapy, I tailor each treatment to you, your needs and what feels comfortable for your body.

✨ You deserve rest, too.

Have you found anything that helps you switch off when your mind is busy? I'd love to hear from you.
