Physiotherapy isn’t just treatment on a bed or a few exercises to tick off.

It’s a process of understanding what’s actually going on beneath the surface, why something is happening, how your body is moving, and what’s contributing to the problem in the first place.

Pain or restriction is rarely caused by just one thing. It can be a combination of strength, mobility, load, recovery, stress, training habits, or even how your body has adapted over time.

That’s why no two people’s rehab looks the same.

Sometimes the focus is rebuilding strength.
Sometimes it’s improving control and movement patterns.
Sometimes it’s adjusting load or training.
And sometimes it’s simply helping the body recover and settle.

The goal isn’t just to reduce symptoms temporarily, it’s to create change that actually lasts, so you can move with more confidence, less fear, and better understanding of your own body.

It’s easy to focus on the sessions that look the hardest, the lifts, the runs, the competitions, the intensity.

But what often gets overlooked is everything that happens between them.

Recovery is where adaptation actually takes place. It’s where the body repairs, strengthens, and prepares to perform again. Without it, performance eventually breaks down.

The best athletes don’t just train harder, they recover smarter. They listen to their bodies, manage load, prioritise movement quality, and understand that rest is part of progress, not the absence of it.

If you want longevity in sport, it’s not just about pushing limits. It’s about respecting recovery just as much as training.

Build both, that’s where performance lasts.

Sitting here in Sheffield at the UKSI working with England Boxing for the final prep camp ahead of the 4 Nations Championship 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿🇮🇪 and feeling so blessed at the people I meet and the places I go to work!

Here's a throwback to last weekend for the 5th Anniversary of Cumbrias Strongest Man/Woman and great to have Jessica with us too! 🥰

Its been such a privilege to be involved with this from the start with Just Grind Strength and Conditioning and to see the development of strongman locally with CSA and Cumbrian Strongman Promotions has been incredible!

A fantastic day from start to finish with some amazing performances including WLH sponsored athlete Keenan, The Cumbrian OX competing in Men's Open at just 17 years old! To Vicky doing 20 reps of a 200kg deadlift, Mollie and Ian Aaron Wilson showing some unbelievable over head strength and everyone was incredible with the uphill Iron Cross or Anvil Carries!

Years of recurring lower back pain can have a huge impact on daily life, especially when it’s something that has come and gone for decades, despite scans, injections, and multiple specialist appointments.

This is where a different approach can make a real difference.

Taking the time to properly assess, understand movement, and identify what’s contributing to the problem can often bring a new level of clarity, even in long-standing cases.

It’s not always about doing more. Sometimes it’s about looking at things differently.

Really grateful for the trust and kind words, and even more so to hear a positive change after so long dealing with pain.

Staying comfortable feels safe.
It feels familiar, predictable, and controlled.

But comfort rarely leads to change.

Whether it’s recovery, rehab, training, or simply trying to feel better in your own body, progress often comes from the moments that feel slightly challenging.

That might be starting rehab when you’ve been putting it off.
It might be pushing a little further in your movement than you’re used to.
Or it might just be showing up on the days you don’t feel like it.

Discomfort isn’t always a bad thing, often it’s where adaptation begins.

You don’t need to do everything at once.
You just need to be willing to step slightly beyond where you are now.

That’s where change starts.

It’s easy to become so focused on where you want to be that you forget where you started.

The movements that once felt impossible.
The pain that once felt constant.
The confidence you didn’t have yet.

Progress has a way of making people overlook how much they’ve already achieved.

Recovery, strength, and growth rarely happen overnight. They happen through small steps repeated consistently over time, the sessions you showed up for, the days you kept going, and the moments you chose not to give up on yourself.

Even if you’re not where you want to be yet, take a second to appreciate how far you’ve already travelled.
