St Barnabas House

St Barnabas House St Barnabas is a charity providing specialist palliative care within the hospice and the community.

St Barnabas House is the hospice for the Worthing, Adur, Arun and Henfield areas. Our care extends well beyond the hospice walls, with nurses visiting patients and families at home. While others might need to stay at the hospice to get help with complex symptoms. For those dealing with the impact of a recent diagnosis, there are opportunities to meet others who are on a similar journey. They can t

ake part in a range of activities from relaxation and exercise classes to gardening, art, cooking, and talking groups - helping them to live well for longer. And, when the time comes, St Barnabas is there at the end of people’s lives so they can die with dignity in a warm and caring environment. It's thanks to the generosity of the local community that all of this is possible. It costs nearly £10 million every year to provide hospice care for local people, with only 22% of this coming from government funding. You can show your support by fundraising, volunteering, taking part in a challenge event, playing the St Barnabas House lottery, or leaving a gift in your Will.

We want to say a huge thank you to everyone who has supported our Making Memories summer appeal. 💙

Together you have raised £91,313 for St Barnabas House, alongside our sister hospices Chestnut Tree House and Martlets Hospice.

Whether you have donated, shared the campaign, dedicated a sunflower, or supported us in another way we’re incredibly grateful. Our staff and volunteers are picking up the phone to let you know that.

Every gift helps us provide compassionate care when it matters most, giving families precious time and memories together.

There’s still time to support the appeal and help us keep making memories. 🌻

Our Sunflower memories displays are now brightening the windows at St Barnabas House! 🌻

Over the last week, hundreds of sunflower dedications were individually placed under the guidance of our artist in residence, Stevan, forming a wonderful display.

These sunflower dedications are part of our Making Memories appeal and will be on display to visit throughout August.

A huge thank you to everybody who remembered a loved one, and to our staff and volunteers who made these displays happen. 💙

Our Making Memories Appeal raises funds for local hospice care, helping us continue supporting people in our communities when they need us most.

What a day at Brighton Pride! 🏳️‍🌈

This weekend, Southern Hospice Group proudly marched at Brighton & Hove Pride for the very first time - bringing together Martlets Hospice St Barnabas House and Chestnut Tree House under one message: Caring with PRIDE, life changing hospice care.

Thank you to everyone who marched with us, supported us and cheered us on throughout the day. We’re proud to stand with LGBTQ+ communities and to continue creating safe, inclusive spaces for every patient and their chosen families.

Take a look at some of our favourite moments from the day!

Derrick spent his life caring for others. He had a heart of gold and was one of the kindest people you could ever meet.

During the last week of his life, Derrick and his family were cared for by St Barnabas House. Here they could laugh, reminisce, and simply be a family. 💙

“From the moment we walked into the hospice we felt like we were wrapped up in a big hug. It wasn’t just Derrick they cared for. They cared for our whole family too.”
— Debbie, Derrick’s wife
