👉When Walking Changes, Look Beyond the Pain

Not every client who struggles to walk experiences pain.

Recently, I treated a client who presented with:
• Difficulty walking
• Hip stiffness
• The leg swinging outward during gait
• Reduced sensation in the hip and leg
• Significant muscle tightness throughout the posterior chain

Interestingly, the client reported:

“I don’t have any back pain.”

This is an important reminder that movement dysfunction is not always caused by pain.

During my assessment, I observed that the body had developed compensatory movement patterns. Multiple muscle groups were working much harder than they should, simply to keep the body moving.

Key muscles involved included:

✅ Gluteus Maximus

✅ Gluteus Medius

✅ Gluteus Minimus

✅ Piriformis

✅ Hamstrings

✅ Tensor Fasciae Latae (TFL)

✅ Iliopsoas

✅ Re**us Femoris

✅ Sartorius

✅ Hip Adductors

✅ Quadratus Lumborum

✅ Multifidus

When one area loses efficient function, the body naturally asks other muscles to compensate.

Over time, this can create excessive tension, stiffness, reduced mobility, and altered walking mechanics.

My Treatment Approach

I don’t believe in forcing tissues.

Instead, I use a slow, gentle and clinically reasoned approach that allows the nervous system and soft tissues to respond naturally.

Each treatment is adapted to the individual—not to a routine.

The goal isn’t simply to release tight muscles.

The goal is to help restore better movement, improve body awareness, and support overall function.

After today’s session…

The client smiled and said,

“I feel so much lighter. I’ve never had a massage like this before.”

Then came the question I hear quite often:

“Can you cure me?”

My answer is always the same.

“I am not a doctor, so I cannot promise a cure. What I can promise is that I will do my very best to help your body move more comfortably, reduce unnecessary tension, and support your quality of life through professional clinical massage therapy.”

Healing isn’t always about curing.

Sometimes, healing begins when the body starts moving the way it was designed to move.

Assessment. Movement. Function. Quality of Life.

That is what clinical massage means to me.

⚠️ Is It Really Sciatica… Or Something Else?

One of the most common phone calls we receive at Jidapha’s Spa starts like this:

“I’ve got pain running down my leg… do you think it’s sciatica?”

The truth is…

Not every pain travelling down the leg is true sciatica.

Pain, tightness or numbness can also be influenced by muscles, fascia and surrounding soft tissues.

Recently, a client contacted us before booking an appointment.

He works as a bricklayer, spending long hours lifting, bending and carrying heavy materials every day.

His symptoms included:

✔ Severe lower back tightness

✔ A feeling that the entire leg was “hard” and tight

✔ Pain travelling down the back of the leg

✔ Tightness extending towards the knee

Before making assumptions, we explained that the first step is always a thorough assessment during the appointment.

Why?

Because several structures can produce similar symptoms, including:

• The Piriformis muscle

• Gluteal muscles

• Hamstrings

• Lumbar muscles

• Fascial restrictions

• Nerve irritation

• Or, in some cases, irritation involving the sciatic nerve itself.

Understanding where the symptoms begin is often more important than focusing only on where the pain is felt.

At Jidapha’s Spa – Thai Acupuncture & Therapeutic, we assess how your body moves, identify areas of muscle tension and soft tissue restriction, and tailor treatment to your individual presentation.

Our approach may include:

✔ Deep Tissue Massage

✔ Sports Massage

✔ Myofascial Release

✔ Trigger Point Therapy

✔ Thai Therapeutic Massage

✔ Assisted Stretching & Mobility

Every person is different.

That’s why every assessment—and every treatment—is different too.

If you’re experiencing persistent back, buttock or leg pain, we’d be happy to assess whether muscles and soft tissues may be contributing to your symptoms.

Educational Note

Pain radiating down the leg is not always caused by sciatica. Similar symptoms can arise from different musculoskeletal conditions. If you experience progressive weakness, loss of bladder or bowel control, or severe or worsening symptoms, seek urgent medical assessment.

❓Why Is Your MRI Normal… But You’re Still in Pain?

Have you been told that your MRI is “normal”, but you still suffer from:

🔸 Inner thigh pain
🔸 Groin pain
🔸 Burning or tingling sensations
🔸 Numbness
🔸 Hip discomfort
🔸 Pain when walking, exercising or standing for long periods

You’re not imagining it.

A normal MRI cannot always detect muscle dysfunction, fascial restrictions or soft tissue tension that may contribute to your symptoms.

The Lumbar Plexus is a complex network of nerves that travels through the lower back, pelvis and hip before supplying the front and inner thigh.

When muscles such as the Psoas, Iliacus, Adductors or Quadriceps become tight or overloaded, they may place increased pressure on surrounding tissues and contribute to pain, altered sensation or restricted movement.

At Jidapha’s Spa, we look beyond the scan.

Rather than focusing only on where you feel pain, we assess:

✔ Muscle tension
✔ Movement patterns
✔ Fascial restrictions
✔ Joint mobility
✔ Soft tissue function

Our goal is to identify possible musculoskeletal contributors to your symptoms and provide treatment tailored to your individual needs.

✨Many people believe that jaw pain is simply a problem with the jaw itself.

In reality, it is often much more complex.

Today I treated a client who was experiencing persistent jaw pain, aching cheeks, headaches and neck tension. During the assessment, it became clear that several muscles were working together to create the problem—not just one.

The muscles most commonly involved include:
• Masseter – the primary chewing muscle
• Temporalis – often associated with tension headaches
• Buccinator – deep within the cheek, contributing to facial tightness
• Medial & Lateral Pterygoids – deep jaw muscles that influence TMJ movement
• Sternocleidomastoid (SCM) – a neck muscle that can refer pain into the jaw, face and head
• Upper Trapezius – frequently responsible for neck stiffness and headache patterns

When these muscles become tight, overworked or develop trigger points, pain rarely stays where it started. It can travel into the temples, behind the eyes, the cheeks, ears, neck and even the shoulders.

This is why assessment is so important.

Rather than treating only the painful area, I assess how the jaw, face, neck and shoulders work together to identify the source of the tension and restore healthy movement.

Understanding anatomy allows us to treat the body more effectively—not just the symptoms, but the structures contributing to them.

✨ Every client is different, which is why every treatment begins with a thorough assessment.
