The British Institute of Funeral Directors, founded on 6th February 1982 by experienced funeral directors, is dedicated to promoting high standards, professionalism, and university accredited qualifications within the funeral profession. The BIFD was established in 1982 by a group of funeral directors who believed in education and training for their profession; so that members of the public seeking to use the services of a funeral director should be able to choose wisely and get the best possible professional services on offer. The BIFD places the educational and professional development needs of Funeral Directors at the heart of its work and promotes best practice through continual professional development. The BIFD is run by professionals for professionals; the BIFD prides itself on responding to what individuals, companies and the funeral profession needs to best serve the bereaved, now and in the future.

On Saturday 19th September, Judith Dandy (2nd Vice President) hosted a meeting for the British Institute of Funeral Directors ~ a visit to Heart in their Hand Project (Swindon) to meet the team, see the range of keepsakes available, appreciate the manufacturing resources which can create many bespoke options and have an excellent professional discussion about the significance of ‘continuing bonds’ following a bereavement.
‘Continuing bonds’ ~ when a loved one dies, we don’t lose them completely, they stay with us in our memories, photos and objects. We may keep them in our daily lives by personal meaningful rituals and continuing traditions we shared with them ~ the relationship adapts to create a new connection.
