🐾❤️A post about the end of life chapter and people’s judgements from outside….i feel I need to write this post as I obviously treat a lot of senior dogs and outside judgements and opinions are really hard for owners. As an owner of a dog(Henry) who is the final chapter of his life it’s personal too. When a dog reaches the end of their life, their owners who love them see EVERYTHING-the quality of life moments (like them still loving their walks and food)and then the struggles (like pacing and mobility difficulties)-the consent questioning, worry and doing everything you can to help them… and then you get outsiders who see a single moment and think they know the full story, make insensitive comments from a place of limited information and zero responsibility…..end of life decisions are not made from a single moment but EVERY MOMENT. So if you are caring for an elderly dog right now please hear this: you are doing your best. You are doing it with love ❤️ and you do not owe anyone an explanation. Your dog trusts you! And that’s all that matters 🥰🐾

Loveable Lenny 🌈

Lenny first came to see me back in September, when his wonderful pet parents felt that his comfort perhaps wasn't quite where it should be. From the very beginning, it was clear just how deeply he was loved, and how committed his family were to doing absolutely everything they could for him.

Lenny was truly a character- a total legend in every sense. He has that quiet, stoic bravery that's so special, the kind of soul who just gets in with things, no fuss, no drama, just gentle strength.

He never came to the clinic on his own- always accompanied by his sister, and the two of them brought so much personality and entertainment into every visit. Such a joy to see.

His family have been nothing short of incredible. The love, care and thought they poured into every decision for Lenny was so evident, right to the very end. Saying goodbye is never easy, but they showed such courage and kindness in understanding that it was the right time.

I'm so glad he got to have his special trip to Norfolk, surrounded by the people who adored him the most.

Run free, sweet Lenny. You will be deeply missed. Sending much love to your hoomans and your sister x

Caring for and supporting our dogs through their senior years can be a privilege but also a challenge.
There are significant complexities that come from the cognitive, sensory, physical and emotional changes that accompany the aging process.
