Rose Funeral Service (Wyke Regis & Portland)

Rose Funeral Service (Wyke Regis & Portland) Funeral Service serving Wyke Regis, Portland and surrounding areas. J W Rose and sons began trade over 150 years ago as builders and carpenters in Wyke Regis.

As with most local construction firms, J W Rose supplied coffins to the community as required. Eventually the business evolved and 'Rose' became established Undertakers. The business was run by the late George Rose. In 1990, George sold the business to Grassby and sons of Dorchester but continued to arrange and conduct funerals. In 2000 Sam Wilding, having been in the funeral profession since leav

ing school, took over the day to day running of the business. Sam lived on Portland from birth. He spent a few years living in Dorchester and Chickerell but returned to 'the Island' in the end! Sam was awarded the National Association of Funeral Directors Diploma in 1993 and has also been a Member of the British Institute of Funeral Directors since 1993 also. Paul Buddin, a ‘Dorchester lad’, is employed as a valued funeral operative and assistant funeral director, Chris Caines is our long standing funeral operative and Nicola Murphy and Lara Davis are our administrators and commonly the first voices you’ll hear when you contact us. Rose Funeral Service uphold a continuing commitment of care to the local community when required.

Evening
So you all know, Weymouth Crematorium is closed for a few days in early July for essential maintenance work to be carried out. This may have a ‘knock on effect’ for a short while. Also, Portland Cemetery will be unable to accommodate interments for a few days too. Please be patient. From time to time, both services need to take time out to upgrade so they can continue to serve the community.

Hello
I’m really noticing the rise in people pre-paying for unattended direct cremations. They are trying to save the expense, planning and grief for their families. That’s great if it’s what you want but please, tell your family what you have done. Don’t just say “it’s all sorted love..”
When the time comes your family may want a funeral for you. They might want to express their gratitude for all you have done for them even though you might want to leave quietly without a fuss. Before you decide, speak to someone about your wishes.
You have lived a good life, let it be acknowledged by those that actually love you.

We are experiencing a calm-ish time at the moment, and not complaining!
It’s all good meaning we can all take some leave and recharge. Over our Dorset offices we have eight members of staff taking advantage and getting in leave tomorrow (Friday)
Be patient if you need us. We do need to not be at work, re-set and get popped ‘on charge’ for a bit.

I can’t speak for all branches but we have had some fantastic feedback from the families we have helped recently. Thank you all, as a team we strive to serve our families and are thrilled to hear it’s given you what you needed.

Easter bank holidays are looming, that will have an effect on timings when booking funerals.

It’ll be fine, just be patient…

Best wishes
Sam, Paul, Nicola, Lara and co

A graveside service this morning and it was pouring down. As a piece of music was played, the rain calmed and the sun appeared followed by this.
Perfect.
(Thanks to hearse driver Allard for sneakily catching a pic.)
Sometimes it makes you wonder….
