🏃‍♀️We actually did it — the Great North Run! 🙌
Amazingly to me, I got through it feeling strong & without picking up another injury🤞

This was our longest run ever & run in memory of my sister, Michelle. 💜🌈 Over the last few years, we’re really proud to have done a few runs to raise money for Research ALKay Lung Cancer & this time we went our furthest AND beat our fundraising target again!

That’s entirely thanks to our friends, family, clients, customers & everyone who donated, shared, sent messages or encouraged us. A huge THANK YOU. It genuinely means so much.

The Great North Run was quite an experience: the crowds, atmosphere & support were incredible. There were moments when it felt hard (especially that last kilometre 😅), but crossing the finish line made it all worthwhile.

I feel so grateful to have got through, having struggled with my IT band/knees over the past few years and, as recently as last year, limping on & off throughout the Run Norwich 10K. So to finish a half marathon uninjured (🤞)? I’m genuinely amazed!

I do feel taking a much more rounded, intentional & holistic approach to training & recovery has helped enormously. I’ve focused on strength training, yoga, resistance bands & pre-run activation exercises, alongside gradually building the running. I’ve also been more intentional with nutrition — particularly enough protein & carbs, plus electrolytes on longer runs.

My own routine has included turmeric, fish oil, iron alongside vitamin C, and magnesium, where needed.

And, of course, being a herbalist, herbs have come into it too. 🌿 Around runs I’ve regularly used topical preparations with arnica, frankincense/Boswellia, chamomile, comfrey & ginger around my knees & IT band areas. None of it has been a quick fix — just strengthening, fuelling, recovering, listening to my body & being consistent.

To complete Run Norwich and then the Great North Run just a week later, both injury-free, feels like a pretty big milestone. 💪🌿 Hopefully I can keep building on it.

For now, I’m incredibly thankful — to have done this in memory of my sister, raised money for a charity that means so much to us & beaten our target again.

Thank you all so much. 💜

🌱 Never underestimate the power of a plant.

Plants have been used as medicine for thousands of years, and they continue to play an important role in healthcare today. Many modern medicines and pharmaceutical drugs have their origins in plants, or in compounds first discovered through studying them.

But beyond what has already been developed into modern drugs, there is an extraordinary world of plant medicine — complex, diverse and still being explored. 🌿

Traditional herbal knowledge, passed down through generations, has often helped point the way towards understanding the medicinal properties of plants. Tu Youyou’s remarkable work is a powerful example of what can happen when we remain curious about that knowledge and investigate the plants our ancestors used medicinally.

💚 A wonderful achievement for Tu Youyou, and a richly deserved Nobel Prize — an incredible testament to the potential held within the plant world — but also a moment to honour those who first recognised, used and documented the medicinal value of wormwood all those centuries ago. Without the preservation of that herbal knowledge, discoveries like this may never have been possible. 🌿

There is still so much to learn from plants. 💚

What an inspiration this one is. From paralysed, to running 5000km across the country, hosting a 5k in each city, and motivating so many to get moving! 👏👏🙌 Incredible..! ✨

I almost didn’t go tonight, with my knee playing up a bit again, but tomorrow I’ll be back on strength & yoga after a few weeks off.. I have little choice but to keep going with Run Norwich & the Great North Run Great Run coming up in under 2 & 3 weeks, respectively; raising funds for Research ALKay Lung Cancer in memory of my sister 💜🌈

Tonight..stretches, a nutritious meal, turmeric, fish oils and magnesium! I’ll also be massaging in some boswellia, arnica, ginger.. really should have been prioritising looking after these knees more with these, with my injury history 😅! Wish me luck! 😅✨🙌 Caley's Apothecary

So grateful to have witnessed today’s (well..yesterday’s now) total solar eclipse! I’d always wanted to see one-especially after sleeping through the 1999 one, as a teen 😅, and it was every bit as magical as expected. So special to see and a moment we’ll all always remember 🌞🕶️🌝

Who else has enjoyed what feels like glorious weather today? After ongoing rain & cold, the sunshine & blue skies were 🥰! The elder (Sambucus nigra) is beginning to show signs of springing back into life, and the snowdrops are out. Hard to believe that the end of the end reel was last week’s snow! ❄️ Have an awesome week ahead! 🌱☀️💚✨

How has everyone’s January been? I hope all are having a good start to 2026, even if wanting to hibernate 😄
Here’s a round up of my January!
1. Reminiscing about an Indian spice market in Chandni Chowk from a year ago.. a major feast for the senses! How I’d love to visit again!🪷
2. Finally getting round to viewing more of the NIMH (National Institute of Medical Herbalists) Conference online. 👩‍💻
3. Getting to read PoP (Power of Plants) Magazine, which arrived in the post 😊 (thanks )📖
4. Wildly, signing up to the Great North Run half marathon(!!) for Research ALK+ ( )! I’ve never run more than 10k, and have completed Run Norwich three times for them, in memory of my beautiful sister; who we devastatingly lost from this realm in 2023. This year, we plan on Run Norwich & the Great North Run a week apart (help!). (Link in bio to follow/support/share☺️💜🌈)
5. Yoga..! Lots of yoga (& gym!), trying to work my way out of an injury & be fighting fit for the runs😅 I’ve also upped my turmeric, of course! (Who else is enjoying yoga? Just love, for body & mind!🧘‍♀️)
6. Caley’s Apothecary ( )..! Lots of time here, since moving to the new premises at the end of August. It’s so lovely meeting so many more in this location, whilst continuing to have the support of those who had already found us at our last premises. Thank you all!💚
7. My therapy room! Much time here, holding consultations and space for people; whilst putting herbal plans and preparations together. I love the light that comes in the two windows in this therapy room. I also love that some other wonderful therapists get to use this space, so that people can access a range of fabulous therapies in one place. ✨
8. Elderflower..! Nope, it’s not out already, it’s just me looking forward to spring 😄 Some days, you can almost feel it in the air already; and other days, the cold is back with what feels like a slap to remind us we’re not there yet 🥶😆
9. And lots of organic herbal teas! Apart from enjoying them, and herbs having a fantastic array of properties, they help warm us up when we get that reminder that it IS still winter. Slow down & enjoy!🌿🫖
