π΅ Festival Season is well underway, but are you prepared?
Millions of us will head to festivals, outdoor concerts, sporting events and community gatherings this summer.
And while these events are all about fun, great music and making memories, they can also be the setting for serious medical emergencies.
π΄ THE REALITY OF OUTDOOR EVENTS
β’ Heat exhaustion and heatstroke are common in large crowds on hot days
β’ Alcohol and dehydration are a dangerous combination
β’ Cardiac arrests can happen anywhere and to anyone
β’ Allergic reactions and anaphylaxis can strike without warning
β’ Crowds make it harder for ambulances to reach casualties quickly
β’ The average festival site can be miles from the nearest hospital
π‘ WHAT TO DO IF SOMEONE COLLAPSES AT AN EVENT
1οΈβ£ Shout for help and send someone to find the medical team
2οΈβ£ Call 999 and give your precise location or a nearby landmark
3οΈβ£ Check for a response and normal breathing
4οΈβ£ If not breathing normally then start CPR immediately
5οΈβ£ Ask someone nearby to find an AED defibrillator
6οΈβ£ Keep going until help arrives
β οΈ In a busy festival environment YOU may be the first person to reach someone in need. The medical team may be minutes away. Those minutes matter enormously.
