I did a thing! I was donated a birth pool, but sadly it was beyond repair. So, for the sake of research, (and for my own curiosity!) I filled it up and took a kitchen knife to it. WHY? Because in some corners of the birth world, there's still the idea that if anything happens, someone will have to "slash the pool" in order to help the birthing person out. As we know, that is a recipe for disaster, and obviously never happens, but this video shows you what it *might* look like! 🔪💧 (answer: a LOT of water). For a great blog post detailing this, check out Starfish Doula's blog post "Do Midwives really cut open birth pools at home births?" Also, I guess you could 'just' cut the outer edge, in order to deflate, but then why wouldn't you just open the valve?
