Sorry, but it's now official that we can no longer teach CPR.
The 'Pirates In Sea States Text And Key Expressions' guild has had the C and the R copyrighted.

Their statespirate, Captain Redpengrammar, said, "Arrr, the C is arrrrs, and the R is arrrrs too, see? You can have a P. Arrr."

So, there you have it, as plain as can be.

Whilst a lot of us love a good horror flick, would you know what to do if someone was bleeding heavily?

Jason certainly knows what to do; in a rare moment of empathy he's patching up one of his victims 🤕

Seriously though the guidelines changed in October 2025 to now include life-threatening bleeding on workplace first aid courses.

We have the SARAH Act in the UK which is here to protect YOU if you try to help someone who's poorly.

Yes, dignity is important, so you should minimise exposure, but I've never met anyone who'd rather be ☠️ than 'flop a bob' in public if it meant living.

What would you rather do?

CPR takes minutes to learn, and the defib literally takes you through what to do. If you're trained in both, you'll shave vital seconds off and could even give that person 70% more of a chance of surviving than if you waited for an ambulance and did nowt.

ALSO WE USE ACTUAL BRAS IN OUR TRAINING SO YOU CAN PRACTICE CUTTING ONE OFF!!!

Learn it. Flop dem bobs out. Save lives.

Don't just act fast...
BE FAST 💪🏻⚕️💚

🧠 B.E.F.A.S.T – Spot Stroke, Save Time

B – Balance
Sudden loss of balance or coordination.
Unexplained dizziness, trouble walking, or falling to one side.

E – Eyes
Sudden vision problems in one or both eyes.
Blurred vision, double vision, or complete loss of sight.

F – Face
Facial drooping on one side.
Ask the person to smile. Does one side sag?

A – Arms
Arm weakness or numbness.
Ask them to raise both arms. Does one drift downward?

S – Speech
Slurred speech, understanding spoken words or difficulty finding words. Ask them to repeat a simple phrase. Is it unclear or confused?

T – Time
Time to call 999 immediately.
Stroke treatment is incredibly time-critical.

Every minute matters.

Why BEFAST matters

The older system was “FAST.” BEFAST adds Balance and Eyes, which catch additional types of stroke that FAST can miss.

Using BEFAST improves early recognition, and early recognition means faster treatment, less brain damage, and better recovery.

Key points to remember
Stroke symptoms usually come on suddenly
Even if symptoms improve or disappear, it’s still an emergency
❌Do not wait to see if it gets better
Do not drive the person to hospital yourself
✅Call 999 and say: I think this is a stroke.

A quick street-level check
If you ever suspect a stroke, run this rapid sequence:

“Are they steady?
Can they see properly?
Is the face drooping?
Can they lift both arms?
Is the speech normal?”
If ANY answer worries you → T = Time to call 999

Changes!
The only thing I've changed is the 'handle' tbh; now known on insta as York First Aid Training, to better reflect the majority of what we do on the daily.
