Today we are celebrating our wonderful Healthcare Assistant; Les. Les has been brightening the practice with her kindness, hard work and positivity for the past 25 years and we all think the world of her!

As an avid reader, Les is always lending staff her books, along with her review on in the inside. So, we thought we would give her a dedicated library shelf to share her books amongst the staff here at the practice.

Les is not going anywhere yet, but we just wanted to say a huge thank you for all she does for our patients and staff alike. She's an absolute star!

Our application to close our branch site at Copmanthorpe has been approved. Please see the letter on our website for the full details and next steps. Our Copmanthorpe patients will shortly receive a text message (and those without a mobile will receive a letter in the post.

We know this is disappointing news, but please read the letter as to the positive steps we are taking. We do hope our Copmanthorpe patients who are able, will remain patients of Front Street Surgery.

Apologies for the delay in getting this news to you, but due to restructure within the ICB, this process has taken longer than expected.

If you have any questions, that are not answered in the letter, then please do get in touch.

The 2026 GP Patient Survey has been published and we are absolutely thrilled that we have scored so highly again.

We received much higher scores than national levels in most categories.

A big stand out 93% of our patients described their overall experience at FSS as good (the national average is 77%). So, a big thank you to everyone who completed their survey.

If you’re more used to scrolling your feed than being in a field, ticks might not be your first thought when heading into nature. 🌿📱
But they're common in grassy and wooded areas and can be very small, so it's important to check yourself regularly during and after your walk. To help reduce your risk:
🚶 Stick to clearly defined paths
👖 Wear long trousers and long-sleeved tops
🤍 Choose light-coloured clothing to make ticks easier to spot
🚫 Use an insect repellent containing DEET

Application to close the Copmanthorpe branch of Front Street Surgery.

We have been investigating the potential use of clinical rooms at Askham Bar if our application to close the Copmanthorpe branch is successful. This option was raised at our patient engagement meeting in April.

It has taken a while to investigate this due to infrastructure changes within the Integrated Care Board (ICB) who are responsible for our funding and estates.

We have been in discussion with the hospital trust, who currently hold the licence for this site, and they have been very supportive with our enquiry. This site currently houses the Community Diagnostics Centre, which is run by the hospital trust.

After extensive discussions and site visits, the conclusion is that Askham Bar is not logistically or operationally feasible for the use of primary care.

• The rooms are not configured for general practice.
• The IT system is owned by the trust and not by our IT provider.
• There are issues around the phone system in terms of GDPR.
• The site is not CQC registered for Primary Care use, which is the regulatory body for GP practices.
• There is not the required emergency equipment at this site.
• There is very limited stock and consumables on site.

Having thoroughly investigated this as an option, we will not be taking this further. We plan to run all our clinical appointments from the main branch in Acomb, where all our staff, services and systems are under one roof.

If we are successful in funding to reconfigure the main branch, we will look to lease rooms at Acomb Garth, but for non- clinical staff during the works.

Updated FAQs has been posted on our website and displayed in the Copmanthorpe practice.

Once we have received a decision regarding our application to close the site we will of course, contact all patients registered at the Copmanthorpe branch.

Remember - you do not need to do anything, your registration will simply switch to our Acomb branch if you are able to remain a patient of FSS.

Thank you for your patience whilst we looked in to this matter.

Thank you to everyone who came in to write a message in Dr Orr’s retirement book. 🙏 A big thank you for those who donated to his leaving gift and for the various cards and gifts. He was blown away by the generosity and kind words. We bought him an e-reader with the donations - so he’s all set for his travels ( after his summer of golf. )⛳️

It’s been an emotional time at the practice as he’ll be greatly missed by us all. 😢

However we look forward to taking Front Street Surgery in to a new chapter. 😊
