Eating all the "right" foods, but still not feeling your best?

We're pleased to see our expert, Dr Naomi, featured in Hip & Healthy's latest article exploring the science and symptoms of food intolerances, including common signs like bloating, itchy skin and brain fog.

Find out why even a healthy diet could be holding you back and what to look out for 👇

words by Dr Naomi Newman-Beinart (PhD) As a nutritional therapist, one of the most common things I hear from clients is: “I don’t understand what’s changed. I am eating really well, but just feel bloated all the time”. They’re eating what they believe is a healthy diet. They’re making an...

"I'm so glad I took the test - it made me realise just how closely linked the food I eat is to my overall health."

Jo, 48, a writer, had been living with a collection of symptoms she had quietly accepted as part of everyday life - stomach cramps, bloating, brain fog, joint aches, low energy and dry skin and hair. She was managing, but everything felt like more effort than it should.

What made Jo's experience particularly striking was the reason she took the test. She had initially wondered whether her teenage daughter might have a cows' milk intolerance, and decided to test alongside her out of curiosity. The results pointed in a very different direction.

Her Premium Food Intolerance Test revealed strong IgG reactions to cows' milk, along with sensitivities to gluten, wheat, cashews and several other foods. Symptoms she had attributed to perimenopause turned out to be closely linked to what she was eating.

The changes came in stages. Within days, her skin and hair improved. Over the following weeks, her digestive symptoms and joint aches eased. After around a month, the brain fog began to lift.

Jo now feels healthier, more informed, and more in control of her diet and wellbeing.

Are your migraines connected to what you eat? 🧠

For people who experience regular migraines, diet is one of the most common - and most overlooked - triggers. Certain foods can play a real role in setting off symptoms, but the link isn't always obvious because reactions don't always happen straight away.

Our latest article looks at the connection between migraines and diet, what the research suggests, and how identifying potential trigger foods could help you make more informed decisions about your diet.

Why didn't it react straight away? 🤔

If you've ever wondered whether a food is causing you problems but the symptoms don't appear immediately, you're not alone. It's one of the trickiest things about food intolerances - reactions can take anywhere from a few hours to up to 72 hours to show up.

That's because food intolerances are different from food allergies. An allergy (an IgE response) tends to be fast and obvious. A food intolerance (an IgG response) is much slower - which is why it can be so hard to pinpoint a trigger food just by paying attention to how you feel after a meal.

By the time you experience bloating, headaches, fatigue or skin reactions, the food responsible could be one you ate yesterday - or even the day before.

This is exactly why a structured approach helps. The YorkTest Premium Food Intolerance Test measures IgG reactions to over 200 foods, taking the guesswork out of the process.
