Sometimes the most meaningful thing we can do isn't to keep going, it's to create space to stop for a while.
At times, the pressures of modern life have a way of keeping our bodies in a constant state of stressful mobilisation, which can make it difficult to imagine putting anything down, even for a while. We move from one task to the next, often without noticing quite how much life is pulling on our resources and our energy slowly dwindling.
Time spent on a retreat offers something different. Rather than focusing on doing more, it invites us into a slower current. The experience is thoughtfully held by the hosts, who cultivate a safe, supportive, and nourishing environment where we can sink into ourselves more fully, rest, and expand our embodied capacity. It creates a gentle spacious container that allows us to make space for rest, renewal, varied movement, playfulness and new friendships. It refreshes our internal experience of ourselves.
As a therapist, I'm often reminded that creating space is not simply about slowing down. It's about making room for what needs to be felt. When we rarely pause, emotions often find expression and surface elsewhere: in tension held in the neck and shoulders, fatigue, difficulty sleeping, or jangled nerves.
Nature has an extraordinary way of helping us reconnect with a greater sense of inner space. The mountains, in particular, help us to find a steadier rhythm. Wide open landscapes encourage us to breathe more expansively, while forests offer a quiet sense of being held. They gently remind us that we don't always need to be productive. Sometimes it's enough simply to be.
This is one of the reasons I'm so looking forward to co-hosting our next Art, Yoga & Qi Gong Retreat in the mountains of Andalusia this September, and again next April.
Together we'll explore how creativity, gentle movement, breathwork, and time in nature can help us rediscover that spaciousness within ourselves that so often gets lost or constricted in everyday life. In yoga and qi gong we often speak of the stillness between each breath; that quiet pause where the nervous system can begin to settle, the muscles soften, and the breath deepen.
A retreat is a chance to step away from the noise and drop into something deeper, which doesn’t end when the retreat does. It travels home with us, gently reshaping the rhythm of our days and bringing a deeper, steadier breath to even our busiest moments.
If this resonates with you, we'd love to welcome you to the mountains, where we'll spend a few days slowing down, creating, breathing, and reconnecting with nature, others, and with ourselves.
