Vaginal Dryness and Genitourinary Syndrome of Menopause (GSM) 🌺

Vaginal dryness is one of the most physically uncomfortable menopause symptoms and one of the least discussed - many women suffer in silence for years without realising that highly effective treatments are available.

Treatment for vaginal dryness can be started decades after menopause. It’s never too late. As oestrogen levels fall, the vaginal tissues become thinner, drier, and less elastic, causing persistent itching, burning, irritation, and pain during sexual in*******se.

Lower oestrogen levels also change the types of natural vaginal bacteria, which can increase urine infections (UTIs).
Unlike hot flushes, vaginal dryness does not resolve on its own and typically worsens over time without treatment.

At The York Clinic, this is a symptom we take seriously and treat with sensitivity. Our clinicians can discuss the full range of options - from vaginal moisturisers and lubricants through to prescription topical oestrogen and systemic HRT - to find the approach that is right for you and restore your comfort and confidence.

Brain fog 😶‍🌫️

Difficulties with memory, concentration, and mental clarity - affects a large proportion of women going through perimenopause and menopause. Women commonly report forgetting words mid-sentence, struggling to concentrate at work, losing track of tasks, and feeling mentally slower than usual. This is not a sign of early dementia; it is a recognised consequence of oestrogen’s vital role in supporting brain function and cognitive processing. It is, however, something that should not be dismissed or simply accepted.

At The York Clinic, we regularly help women who come to us worried about their cognitive symptoms. Our specialists can assess whether hormonal treatment, lifestyle changes, or a combination of both could help lift the mental fog and restore the sharpness and clarity you have been missing.

Why we do what we do 🤍

Menopause is a natural life stage, not a disease, but these hormonal changes can significantly affect quality of life, work, and relationships.
Other situations can also bring on menopause, including surgical menopause (after removal of the ovaries), medical menopause (after certain treatments such as chemotherapy), and primary ovarian insufficiency (early menopause). Each scenario can affect timing, symptoms, and management options.

Effective treatments exist to manage symptoms and support wellbeing at any stage, and personalised care can make a substantial difference.

Since opening, we have met many women with similar experiences.

Many have struggled to find clear guidance, knowing something isn’t quite right but unsure where to turn. Some have received conflicting advice, or guidance that didn’t fully address their symptoms.

We often hear from women who feel their concerns have been overlooked, or whose previous treatments were not effective for them. Others have tried approaches that didn’t fully address their needs. At The York Clinic, we listen carefully, provide evidence-based advice, and work with you to find safe, effective treatments tailored to your situation.

🎈 The York Clinic is 1 year old 🎈

What started as a conversation between friends about how we could improve menopause care for women has grown into the clinic we are today.

In just one year, we've had the privilege of supporting women across the UK, growing our team, and helping thousands of women feel heard, understood, and empowered during their menopause journey.

And we're only just getting started...

Over the next few months, our team will continue to grow, and we can't wait to introduce you to our new clinicians.

A huge thank you to everyone who has trusted us, supported us, and been part of our first year. Here's to the next chapter 🥂

And finally, thank you to Sarah Burton Photography for capturing our team so beautifully. Sarah, we absolutely love our new images ❤️
