We are so pleased that our new Prime Minister, Andy Burnham recognises and supports the great work Menfulness are doing for men's mental health and su***de awareness in the Yorkshire area.

We have worked tirelessly with Menfulness over the past three years to provide the underpinning research to help Menfulness expand their services to Scarborough and now into Malton.

This is a fantastic example of how research form our YSJ Communities Centre creates tangible, positive change within local and regional environments.

💛 You’re invited to our Bereavement Café next week - a gentle space to connect, share and feel supported 💛

Have you experienced the loss of someone important to you? Or have you been carrying grief quietly and feel like you’d like to talk to others who understand?

Our Bereavement Café is a welcoming, informal space where people can come together, share their experiences, and find comfort in the company of others.

If you’ve never been before, you might be wondering what to expect. There’s no pressure to talk, no need to share your story, and no “right” way to grieve. You can simply come along, have a cuppa, listen, and spend time in a space where whatever you’re feeling is welcome.

Grief can sometimes feel lonely or difficult to explain. Meeting others who have experienced loss can offer a sense of connection, reassurance, and a reminder that you don’t have to navigate it all on your own.

Whether your loss was recent or many years ago, whether you feel ready to talk or you just want to sit and listen - you are welcome.

☕ Come as you are.
💛 Stay for as little or as long as you’d like.
🌱 Meet others in a warm and supportive environment.

Join us next week for our Bereavement Café.
☕ When: Every second Wednesday each month

🌿 Counselling: A Space to Explore, Understand and Grow

Life can sometimes feel overwhelming. We may find ourselves carrying difficult emotions, facing challenges, feeling stuck in patterns we don’t understand, or simply wanting to make sense of our experiences.

Counselling offers a confidential and supportive space where you can explore what is happening for you, at your own pace and in your own way.

✨ Counselling can support you with:

💭 Understanding yourself more deeply
Explore your thoughts, feelings, experiences, and the ways you respond to the world around you. Counselling can help you develop greater self-awareness and insight into what shapes who you are.

🌱 Navigating life’s challenges
Whether you’re experiencing stress, change, loss, uncertainty, relationship difficulties, or feeling overwhelmed, counselling can provide a space to process what you’re going through.

❤️ Exploring emotions
Sometimes emotions can feel confusing, intense, or difficult to express. Counselling can help you make space for your feelings and understand what they may be communicating.

🧩 Recognising patterns and discovering new perspectives
Together with a counsellor, you can explore recurring thoughts, behaviours, or experiences and consider different ways of approaching situations.

🌊 Building self-compassion and confidence
Counselling can help you develop a kinder relationship with yourself, recognise your strengths, and explore what you need to support your wellbeing.

🤝 Strengthening relationships and boundaries
It can offer a space to reflect on your relationships, communication, needs, and the boundaries that help you feel safe and respected.

Counselling isn’t about having all the answers straight away. It’s about having a space where you can be heard, understood, and supported as you explore your own thoughts, feelings, and experiences.

Sometimes, taking the first step is simply choosing to talk. 🌿Find out more and self-refer here: www.yorksj.ac.uk/working-with-the-community/communities-centre/counselling

🗨️ "The trainer was really engaging and managed to deliver a session on a difficult topic in a sensitive way "

🗨️ "We were given a lot of information but also plenty of opportunity to ask questions and share experiences. I'm sure my practice is better informed."

🗨️ "This course was absolutely brilliant, Jeannette was extremely knowledgeable and used up to date research to inform the course content. I would absolutely recommend this course to all mental health practitioners, counsellors or anyone working with clients who have/are experiencing domestic abuse. Thank you YSJ Communities Centre!"
