I’m going to share something with you that a previous version of me really needed to hear.
There is a world of difference between building a life that looks right from the outside and living one that actually feels like yours from the inside.
For years, I carried around this idea of how life was supposed to look. What counted as doing well, what a sensible person would do, what I should have sorted out by now, what other people might make of the choices I made.
I’ll be honest with you, it took reaching breaking point before any of that stopped mattering quite so much.
Because when you get to that place, the question becomes far more personal.
Is this how I want to live?
And I knew it wasn’t.
Once I stopped trying to make my life fit an idea of how it was supposed to look, I became much clearer about what mattered to me. Who I wanted around me. How I wanted to spend my time. Where I wanted to put my energy. What I was ready to leave behind.
That brought me a lot of peace. It also brought me much closer to spirit.
I had spent years searching for the spiritual, always reaching for something deeper, as though there was another layer of life I needed to find.
And all the while, life was happening. The laughter, the grief, the confusion, the cup of tea, the moments when I felt completely lost and the moments when being alive felt really good.
Once I stopped trying so hard to find spirit, I began to feel the connection I’d been searching for in the life that was already here.
So if this is resonating with you, I want you to know that whatever your life looks like right now, you haven’t somehow fallen outside of spirit. You can feel lost, frightened, completely alone. You can have no idea what happens next.
Spirit isn’t the reward for getting through the difficult part. It isn’t waiting for you on the other side when you feel peaceful again. It is here in the middle of this as well.
You don’t have to feel connected to it. You don’t have to understand what is happening. You don’t have to find some greater meaning in what you’re going through.
What you are going through can change everything about how life feels.
It cannot make you separate from life itself, because that’s all you are, all you’ve ever been, and all you ever will be.
