Llais is aware of the considerable public concern and strength of feeling emerging across Powys since the publication of the papers for the Powys Teaching Health Board meeting on 16 September 2026.

We know many people are worried about what the proposals being discussed could mean for them and their families, and access to healthcare services across Powys. We also know that people want to be confident they will have a genuine opportunity to influence any decisions that could affect healthcare services in their communities.

As an independent statutory body, our role is to make sure the views, experiences and concerns of people are heard and considered. We are now reviewing the papers in detail and looking carefully at what the proposals could mean for people across Powys.

At next week's Board meeting, we'll be looking for clarity on a number of issues that matter to people and communities. These include the potential impact on people's access to services and their wider healthcare journey, what any changes could mean for carers and families, and how people living in rural communities or without access to a car would be affected.

We will also be looking closely at the infrastructure, workforce, transport and wider support that would need to be in place for any proposed model to work effectively and meet people's needs.

Just as importantly, we know that trust and confidence in the process matters. We will be seeking assurance that any future consultation is inclusive, meaningful and accessible to all, including seldom-heard, under-represented and vulnerable groups. We also want to understand how people's feedback will be used, and the role it will play in genuinely shaping outcomes.

Next week, we will attend the Board meeting as observers with speaking rights. We will be there to represent the voices of people and communities across Powys and to raise the issues and questions we have been hearing from people.

If you haven't shared your views with us yet, we encourage you to get in touch. The more we hear from people with different experiences and perspectives, the better we can make sure that the issues we raise reflect what matters most to communities across Powys.

How should NHS services in Powys evolve over the next 10 years and beyond?

People are living longer, health needs are becoming more complex and some services face growing workforce pressures.

On 16 September, Powys Teaching Health Board will consider whether Better Together proposals are ready for formal public consultation.

The Board will not be deciding whether to implement service changes. It will consider whether the options and evidence are ready for public scrutiny.

The proposals explore how we can strengthen prevention and community care, improve urgent and mental health support, and retain safe inpatient care for people who need it.
