Fantastic ! Yesterday, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), approved the sixth drug for Alzheimer’s disease, Aducanumab, a monoclonal antibody. Since 2003, when memantiene was approved, we didn’t have any new drug. Aducanumab is controversial but it is a hope for our patients, in addition to the aforementioned memantiene and the anticholinesterases. It is the first drug actually targeting the aggregated forms of β-Amyloid. And even more important, I believe the approval of this new type of drug is opening a door for totally new way to treat this patients in the near future.

Disregarding the recommendation from its advisory panel, the FDA has approved the controversial anti-amyloid aducanumab for Alzheimer's disease.
