KORLE BU POLYCLINIC/FAMILY MEDICINE AND PARTNERS LAUNCH 2025 WORLD BREAST CANCER MONTH
The βPINK MONTH,β as itβs commonly referred to, is a period set aside by the World Health Organization to increase awareness, promote behaviour change for early detection of Breast Cancer, advocate for improved access to care, and also celebrate millions of lives across the globe affected by the disease.
To this end, the Department of Polyclinic/Family Medicine, Korle Bu, in collaboration with Society of Family Physicians of Ghana, Phizer and Besayen on Monday, October 6, 2025, joined the rest of the world to launch the World Breast Cancer Month, aimed at sensitizing and creating awareness about Breast Cancer.
The Clinical Care Coordinator of Polyclinic Family Medicine, Dr. Baaba N. Damoah,who also doubles as the President, Society of family physicians of Ghana (SOFPOG), led the team of clinicians and staff of the department to educate patients about the symptoms, early detection, self-examination, and treatment options.
Dr. Damoah advised women to report to the nearest health facility if they notice symptoms such as lump or thickening of the breast, breast pains, breast swelling, changes of ni***es, changes in size or shape of the breast, among others. She stressed that early detection is critical and therefore itβs recommended for women to undertake breast screening at least once a year.
She urged women to take advantage of the free screening exercise ongoing at the polyclinic to enable them determine their status.
The Acting Head of Department, Dr. George Bediako Nketiah, and Training /Research coordinator Dr Gordon Amoh supported by other staff, declared the month duly launched.
