EDUCATION ON ANAEMIA IN PREGNANCY

The Kpando Municipal Health Directorate, earlier today, conducted a health education session on Akpini Radio on the important topic of Anaemia in Pregnancy.

The session focused on increasing public awareness about anaemia among pregnant women, its causes, signs and symptoms, possible complications, prevention, and the importance of seeking timely healthcare.

Pregnant women and their FAMILIES were encouraged to take anaemia seriously and to make use of available maternal health services to promote a healthy pregnancy and safe delivery.

The Kpando Municipal Health Directorate remains committed to providing accurate health information and working with the media and other stakeholders to improve the health and wellbeing of the people of the Municipality.

ENGAGEMENT WITH STUDENTS OF BISHOP HERMAN COLLEGE ON SUBSTANCE ABUSE

On Saturday, 15th August 2026, the Kpando Municipal Health Directorate, in collaboration with the Kpando City Lions Club – Lions International District 418-Ghana, organized a vital health education session for students of Bishop Herman College, Kpando on the topic “Understanding and Preventing Substance Abuse.”

The session was delivered by Ms. Emilia Dzikpe, Municipal Public Health Nurse, who educated the students on the growing exposure of young people to alcohol, to***co, non-prescription drugs and cannabis, and the serious physical, mental and social consequences of substance abuse. Students were sensitized on the risks of organ damage, impaired coordination, poor concentration, addiction, mood changes, anxiety, poor academic performance, family conflicts, financial difficulties and legal challenges.

Emphasis was also placed on prevention, including confidently saying “NO” to unknown substances, avoiding risky environments and seeking guidance from trusted adults and authorities.

The session concluded with an engaging Question and Answer session, empowering the students to make informed decisions and choose a healthier, safer and drug-free future.

Earlier today, the Kpando Municipal Health Directorate visited St. Thomas Acquinas JHS to educate students on adolescent health, drug abuse, and hepatitis as the school officially closed the third term.

The session, led by the Municipal Public Health Nurse, equipped students with knowledge and practical tips to make healthy choices, avoid substance abuse, and protect themselves against hepatitis and other preventable health conditions.

‎From the early hours of the morning to late into the night, our health workers are visiting homes across our communities, meeting caregivers at convenient times and providing essential immunization services right at their doorsteps.
‎
‎These field activities reflect the Directorate's commitment to reorienting service delivery to meet the needs of families and improve vaccination coverage throughout the municipality.

‎The journey continues, one household at a time, with a clear goal: leaving no child behind and ensuring every child is protected against vaccine-preventable diseases.

The mop-up immunization exercise by the Kpando Municipal Health Directorate is still in full swing, with teams working tirelessly across all sub-districts.

Every day and night, our dedicated health workers move from community to community, reaching homes at dawn and late in the evening to ensure that no child is missed.

Scenes from the field show nurses navigating different terrains, knocking on doors, engaging caregivers, and delivering life-saving vaccines with passion and commitment.

From one sub-district to another, the story is the same, driven by determination, sacrifice, and a strong desire to reach every eligible child. The exercise continues to bring services closer to the people, meeting families at their convenience and strengthening immunization coverage across the municipality.

‎The Kpando Municipal Health Directorate (KMHD) has taken a bold and innovative step to improve immunization coverage across the municipality with a massive house-to-house mop-up exercise currently underway.
‎
‎This important initiative, which began on June 17, 2026, and will run until July 7, 2026, was born out of the need to rethink how health services are delivered to better meet the needs of families in our communities.
‎
‎Traditionally, nurses reported to work in the morning and closed in the evening. While this routine served many, it became clear that it was not yielding the desired results in reaching all eligible children for vaccination. Many caregivers were unavailable during regular working hours, making it difficult to meet immunization targets.
‎
‎Recognizing this challenge, the Municipal Director of Health Services (MDHS), together with his dedicated team, made a strategic decision to bring services directly to caregivers at times most convenient for them.
‎
‎Today, health workers are going the extra mile. Teams now begin their outreach as early as 4:00 a.m., meeting caregivers at dawn before they leave their homes, and return late in the evening between 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., to reach families when they return.
‎
‎This client-centered approach is transforming service delivery in Kpando. From early morning visits to late evening engagements, nurses and staff are ensuring that no child is missed simply because of timing.
‎
‎From busy neighborhoods to remote areas, the commitment remains the same. Every eligible child must be reached, protected and given a healthy start in life.
‎
‎We commend the resilience, dedication, and sacrifice of all staff in the Municipality who continue to serve beyond traditional hours. To all parents and caregivers, please welcome our teams and support this life-saving exercise. Together, we can achieve full immunization coverage in Kpando.

The Municipal Director of Health Services, Mr
Emmanuel Kona together with members of the Municipal Health Management Team and engineers from the Municipal Assembly, embarked on a working visit to selected health facilities within the municipality to assess the state of existing infrastructure and identify facilities in need of renovation or reconstruction.

The assessment covered Avetikofe CHPS Compound, Gbefi CHPS Compound, Kudzra Health Centre, and Torkor Health Centre. The visit provided an opportunity for the team to evaluate the structural conditions of the facilities, identify critical infrastructure gaps, and gather information to support future renovation and development interventions.

As part of the tour, the Municipal Director and his team also visited the newly constructed CHPS Compound at Dzigbe. The facility, which has been completed by the Municipal Assembly, is expected to be officially handed over to the Municipal Health Directorate to enhance access to healthcare services for residents of the community and surrounding areas.

Speaking during the visit, the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Killian Donkor assured the health team of the Assembly's commitment to improving health infrastructure across the municipality. He indicated that reports from the assessment exercise would be carefully reviewed and that the Assembly would act swiftly to address the identified challenges and support the construction and renovation needs of the affected facilities.

The exercise demonstrates the strong collaboration between the Municipal Assembly and the Health Directorate in their shared commitment to strengthening healthcare delivery and improving access to quality health services for the people of the municipality.

Earlier today, the Municipal Public Health Nurse, Ms. Emilia Dzikpe, and the Municipal Health Promotion Officer, Ms. Gifty Akrobotoe, were on Akpini Radio to educate the public on Neonatal Jaundice.

The discussion focused on the causes, signs and symptoms, prevention and the importance of early detection and prompt treatment of neonatal jaundice. Listeners were encouraged to seek immediate medical attention if a newborn develops yellowing of the eyes or skin, as delayed treatment can lead to serious complications.

The session also highlighted the role of parents and caregivers in ensuring regular postnatal care visits and adhering to medical advice to promote the health and well-being of newborns.

‎The Hunger Project, in collaboration with the Kpando Municipal Health Directorate, today celebrated World Menstrual Hygiene Day at the Fesi Bame EPI Centre Conference Hall under the theme: “Together for a .”
‎
‎The program sought to educate and empower adolescent girls on proper menstrual hygiene practices and healthy living.
‎
‎Highlights of the event included an insightful presentation by the Municipal Public Health Nurse, Sis. Emilia Dzikpe, on the importance of menstrual hygiene, coupled with a practical demonstration on the proper fixing and use of sanitary pads.
‎
‎Sis. Delight Ametepe, the Municipal Nutrition Officer, also educated participants on the nutritional needs of adolescent girls and the importance of healthy eating during adolescence.
‎
‎The event was crowned with the free distribution of sanitary pads through the benevolence of the EPI Centre Community Health Management Committee, bringing smiles and support to many young girls.

‎Earlier today, Gadza Health Center successfully organized a Pregnancy School session for expectant mothers as part of efforts to promote maternal and child health.
‎
‎The session focused on important topics including Neonatal Jaundice, where mothers were educated on the signs, causes and the need for early reporting and treatment to prevent complications in newborns.
‎
‎Participants were also taken through the importance of immunization, emphasizing how vaccines protect children against vaccine-preventable diseases and contribute to healthy growth and development.
‎
‎In addition, the health staff educated the mothers on the National Vaccination Schedule, highlighting the various vaccines children should receive from birth and the importance of adhering to the schedule to ensure maximum protection.
