Malaria is a life-threatening disease caused by parasites that are transmitted to humans through the bites of infected female Anopheles mosquitoes. While the disease is uncommon in temperate climates, malaria is still common in tropical and subtropical countries.

To reduce malaria infections, preventive drugs and insecticide-treated bed nets are distributed to protect people from mosquito bites. The World Health Organization has recommended a malaria vaccine for use in children who live in countries with high numbers of malaria cases.

Protective clothing, bed nets and insecticides can protect you while traveling or if you live in an environment where you are prone to mosquitoes. You also can take preventive medicine before, during and after a trip to a high-risk area. Many malaria parasites have developed resistance to common drugs used to treat the disease.

World Kidney Day is observed annually on the second Thursday of March to raise awareness about the importance of kidney health and to promote preventive measures against kidney diseases. The day serves to educate the public about the risk factors, causes, and treatments of kidney disease, as well as to encourage people to take proactive steps for kidney health.

The campaign is a collaborative effort led by the International Society of Nephrology (ISN) and the International Federation of Kidney Foundations (IFKF). Each year, World Kidney Day focuses on a specific theme that highlights particular aspects of kidney health and disease. Themes may emphasize various issues, such as early detection, chronic kidney disease, the importance of hydration, and the link between kidney health and other health conditions like diabetes and hypertension.

This year's theme "Kidney Health for All – Caring for People, Protecting the Planet" emphasizes the importance of early detection of kidney disease, understanding risk factors, timely testing for at-risk populations, and early intervention to slow the progression of kidney disease.

Furthermore, World Kidney Day aims to promote organ donation and kidney transplantation, as well as support research and policies that address kidney health. The overall goal of World Kidney Day is to reduce the burden of kidney disease worldwide and improve the quality of life for those affected by it.
