CHAG/GHS/IHP TEAM CONDUCTS MONITORING VISIT AT HOLY FAMILY CATHOLIC HOSPITAL

Holy Family Catholic Hospital, Nkawkaw, welcomed the CHAG/GHS/IHP team for a monitoring visit aimed at assessing units and services directly related to Maternal, Newborn and Child Health (MNCH).

During the visit, the team engaged with staff and assessed activities, practices, documentation and service delivery across key units, including:

🔹 Maternity
🔹 Labour Ward
🔹 Children’s Ward & NICU
🔹 Antenatal Clinic (ANC)
🔹 Public Health Unit
🔹 Pharmacy
🔹 Health Information Unit

The monitoring exercise provided an opportunity to review ongoing interventions, identify areas for improvement, share recommendations and strengthen the quality of care provided to mothers, newborns and children.

We appreciate the CHAG/GHS/IHP team for their continued collaboration, support and commitment to strengthening healthcare delivery.

RE-OPENING OF THE REFURBISHED MATERNITY UNIT

We are delighted to announce the official commissioning and resumption of maternity services at the newly refurbished Maternity Block of Holy Family Catholic Hospital, Nkawkaw.

Following the successful completion of renovation works, the maternity ward has been restored to provide a safer, more comfortable, and patient-friendly environment for expectant mothers, newborns, and their families.

This refurbishment was made possible through the collaborative efforts of Holy Family Catholic Hospital, Nkawkaw, the Christian Health Association of Ghana (CHAG), and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) – Integrated Health Partnership (IHP) Project HOPE.

The renovated facility was officially commissioned by Madam Celestina Asante, the Municipal Health Director for Kwahu West, marking a significant milestone in our commitment to improving maternal and newborn healthcare services in the municipality.

We are pleased to inform the general public that maternity services have officially resumed at the refurbished Maternity Block. We warmly welcome all expectant mothers and families to continue accessing quality, compassionate, and safe maternity care at our facility.

We extend our heartfelt appreciation to our partners and all stakeholders whose support made this achievement possible. Together, we continue to strengthen healthcare delivery for our community.

Today’s clinical presentation was led by our Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) Unit, focusing on Cerumen Impaction (Earwax Build-up). The session highlighted the causes, signs and symptoms, diagnosis, appropriate management, and preventive measures for this common but often overlooked condition.

The presentation provided an opportunity for healthcare professionals to refresh their knowledge, share experiences, and discuss best practices in delivering quality ENT care to our patients.

Clinical Presentation Highlights

Today’s clinical presentation was an insightful and interactive session led by representatives from the Municipal National Ambulance Service (NAS).

The presentation focused on the referral process, the vital role of the National Ambulance Service, and the critical pre-hospital care provided before patients arrive at the receiving health facility. Participants gained valuable knowledge on effective referral protocols, emergency response, patient stabilization, communication, and the coordination required to ensure safe and timely patient transfers.

We sincerely appreciate the National Ambulance Service team for sharing their expertise and strengthening the capacity of our healthcare professionals. Together, we continue to improve emergency care and ensure better outcomes for our patients.

Building Capacity to Save Newborn Lives

Holy Family Catholic Hospital, Nkawkaw, was privileged to host the US Government Integrated Health Partnership, representatives from the Ghana Health Service, CHAG, and healthcare professionals from various health facilities across the district for a 5-day Essential Newborn Care (ENC 1 & 2) training.

The training equipped frontline healthcare providers with vital skills to stabilize and care for newborns using life-saving interventions immediately after birth, including newborn resuscitation, infection prevention, and other essential newborn care practices. Participants also received training materials and job aids to support continuous quality newborn care.

The US Mission team visited the training, interacted with participants and hospital management, and toured the NICU, where critical equipment needs were highlighted for possible future support.

Together, we remain committed to strengthening newborn care and giving every baby the best possible start in life.

We were delighted to welcome and celebrate our cherished mothers through a red carpet reception, engaging health talks on S*x in Pregnancy and Exercise in Pregnancy, and a special Client Appreciation Day, where our ANC Star Mom was recognized.

We sincerely thank all our clients and staff for making the week memorable. Although the scheduled Game Day was not held, the celebration truly reflected our theme, “Safe Pregnancy, Respected Moms.”

Today, we officially welcomed our 2026/2027 Rotation Nurses with a comprehensive orientation program designed to prepare them for a successful and fulfilling clinical experience at our hospital.

The orientation introduced the nurses to key aspects of our institution, including our Quality Assurance systems, Staff Welfare services, Professional Code of Conduct, and the Catholic ethics and values that guide our healthcare delivery. They also had the opportunity to meet members of our faculty and gain valuable insight into the standards and expectations that promote quality, compassionate, and patient-centered care.
