Today, I had the privilege of finally meeting Della from France 🇫🇷, whom I connected with through Type 1 International. 💙

Della is an incredible Type 1 warrior who has been living with Type 1 diabetes for over 50 years and has dedicated many years to diabetes advocacy, using her experience and voice to inspire and support others. 🌍💙

We shared our diabetes journeys, spoke about advocacy, access to medical supplies, and the realities of living with Type 1 diabetes. Meeting her in person was truly special, and I’m grateful for the meaningful connection diabetes has created between us.

She also gifted me her old glucometer, which she no longer uses because she now uses a CGM. 🥹💙 For me, it will always be more than just a device—it will be a beautiful reminder of her journey, our meeting, and the incredible community that diabetes continues to build across borders.

From France to Ghana, diabetes truly has no borders. 🌍💙

Ferouza, founder of the SugarCare Foundation, and her team visited the Diabetes Youth Care Greater Accra Region Support Group Meeting in Ridge in June. The group donated diabetes supply packages for the warriors. Currently living with type 1 diabetes, Ferouza shares her story. For 21 years, type 1 diabetes has been part of my life — the injections, blood sugar checks, hospital visits, fear, exhaustion, and the constant cost of staying alive. I know what it means to carry this condition every single day, and I also know that for many families in Ghana, diabetes is not only a medical battle it is a financial and emotional one too.
Too many parents are forced to worry about how they will afford insulin, test strips, medication, clinic visits, and the basic supplies their children need just to live safely. That is why the SugarCare Foundation exists: to stand beside children and young adults living with diabetes, so they feel supported, seen, and never alone.

My dream is to build a SugarCare Centre; a safe place where children can receive care, education, emotional support, and hope under one roof, regardless of their family’s financial situation. I cannot take diabetes away, but together, we can help make life with diabetes less frightening, less lonely, and more full of possibility for the next generation. Thank you for believing in this journey, for believing in these children, and for believing that this is only the beginning.

Diabetes is easier to face when you have people who never stop showing up for you. 💙
This amazing big sister Veronica Ampem Darko is proof that support goes beyond words. She’s been her little brother’s Ebenezer Kay Fletcher🇬🇭 biggest encourager, reminding him every day that diabetes doesn’t define him or his future.
A strong support system can make all the difference, and we’re so grateful to see siblings like these walking this journey together. 🫶
