SUHUM GOVERNMENT HOSPITAL RECEIVES A KIND DONATION OF ESSENTIAL MEDICAL EQUIPMENT FROM FAIRAFRIC GHANA LIMITED fairafric

28th November, 2025 marks a truly remarkable and memorable day for Suhum Government Hospital as we received a generous donation of essential neonatal medical equipment from Fairafric Ghana Limited.

The donated items include:

• Two brand-new incubators
• Radiant warmers (with four key functionalities: warmer, phototherapy unit, oxygen port, and suction machine)
• Two CPAP machines
• One patient monitor

These highly essential medical equipment will significantly enhance our ability to deliver quality healthcare for preterm and newborns babies at the neonatal unit.

Also, we are better positioned to provide the best possible care, improve survival outcomes, and strengthen neonatal services for the entire Suhum Municipality and beyond.

Suhum Today: MP Makes Case for Government Hospital

The Member of Parliament for Suhum, Frank Asiedu Bekoe, known in political circles as Protozoa, has passionately appealed to the Ministry of Health to prioritize the expansion and refurbishment of the Government Hospital to address the growing healthcare crisis facing residents and travelers in the municipality.

Speaking on the floor of Parliament on Tuesday, Frank Asiedu Bekoe, MP painted a vivid picture of the hospital’s dire condition, emphasizing its strategic importance on the busy Accra–Kumasi highway, a route that records frequent accidents and emergency cases.

“Between January and September 2025, Suhum has recorded over 263 accident cases. Many victims are rushed to the Suhum Government Hospital, but due to congestion and limited space, patients—especially women and children—often receive treatment on the floor. This situation requires urgent attention,” Mr. Asiedu Bekoe stated.

The MP’s concerns drew a direct response from the Minister for Health, Mintah Kwabena Ankandoh, who admitted that the Ministry is aware of the hospital’s challenges but noted that the expansion project was not captured in the 2025 fiscal budget.

“The Ministry fully acknowledges the essential need for a well-functioning and adequately equipped emergency ward at the Suhum Government Hospital. Although it was not included in the 2025 budget, we intend to conduct a detailed assessment of the facility to determine the scope of work required,” the Minister told Parliament.

He assured the House that the Ministry would prioritize Suhum in its upcoming capital expenditure programme, likely to be captured under the 2026 budget, as part of efforts to strengthen emergency healthcare delivery in the Eastern Region.

The Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament, who chaired the sitting, encouraged the MP to work closely with the Minister to ensure the matter receives the needed attention.

The Suhum Government Hospital has been struggling for years with overcrowding, inadequate facilities, and a shortage of beds, forcing healthcare workers to improvise.

The children’s ward is among the most affected units, often compelled to place children and their mothers on mattresses on the floor due to a lack of space.

Today, 4th October,2025, Management and staff members of Suhum Government Hospital, led by the Medical Superintendent Dr. Ahmed Tijani Sulemana paid our last respects to a colleague, the late Mr. Felix Lolonyo Anyah, whose sudden demise occurred on 12th July, 2025.

Mr. Felix faithfully served at the Suhum Government Hospital for over two decades, dedicated his time, strength, and devotion to the service delivery . His commitment, humility, and cheerful spirit will forever be remembered.

May his gentle soul rest peacefully in the bosom of the Almighty.

Sensitization Exercise on HPV Vaccine

Today, the Suhum Municipal Health Directorate, in collaboration with Suhum Government Hospital, organized a sensitization session for staff on the upcoming Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) vaccination campaign.

The nationwide exercise is scheduled to run from 7th – 11th October, 2025, targeting girls between the ages of 9 to 14 years.

This important public health intervention seeks to protect the younger generation against the risk of cervical cancer and other HPV-related diseases. The Suhum Municipality is expected to vaccinate over 8,000 children (girls) during this period.

Familiarization Tour by Regional Health Director and some Senior Management Team to Suhum Municipal Health Directorate and Suhum Government Hospital

Today, Suhum Government Hospital had the honor of receiving the newly posted Regional Health Director together with some senior management team on a familiarization visit.

The purpose of the visit was to enable the Regional Director to acquaint himself with the operations of the Facility and gain deeper insight into healthcare delivery within the municipality.

The Municipal Health Director, Mr. Frederick Ofosu, officially welcomed the team and expressed his heartfelt appreciation for the visit. He outlined key health indicators and service delivery outcomes within the municipality.

The Medical Superintendent, Dr. Ahmed Tijani Sulemana, also presented a comprehensive briefing on the hospital’s profile, performance indicators, and current challenges. He outlined management strategies to address these challenges, as well as updates on ongoing projects—including the construction of a VIP ward and main stores, spearheaded by the The Church Of Pentecost - SUHUM AREA and a Children’s Ward funded by an NGO Love Without Boundaries Foundation. He further emphasized key policies being implemented by management to enhance the welfare and wellbeing of staff.

In his remarks, the Regional Health Director commended the staff for their relentless dedication in ensuring quality healthcare delivery for communities within the catchment area. He encouraged staff to prioritize their mental health and to seek timely support from their superiors whenever faced with social, psychological, or emotional challenges.

Closing the session, he reaffirmed his commitment to decentralizing quality healthcare services across the entire region and pledged continuous support to the Municipal health durectorate and Suhum Government Hospital in its mandate to deliver excellent patient care
