According to studies, it is highly not recommended to dispense metal frame for lens fixing for kids in paediatric care due to the following reasons;
1. Choking Hazards: The small, adjustable nose pads on metal frames can easily detach, posing a serious risk to infants and young children.
2. Safety Concerns: During active play or sports, metal frames can bend or break, potentially scratching the face or eyes.
3. Allergic Reactions: Many standard metal frames contain nickel, which can cause skin irritation, redness, and rashes on a child's sensitive skin.
4. Weight and Fit: Metal frames typically rest on nose pads that can dig into a child's delicate, undeveloped nose bridge.
Many pediatric optometrists and Opticians recommend soft, flexible, and durable materials like rubber or TR90 plastic instead. If a metal frame is necessary, hypoallergenic, flexible materials like pure titanium is recommended.
