Can you tell if you’re pregnant before your beta-hCG test? The honest answer is: not reliably — and here’s why:

In the very early days after embryo transfer, every sensation can feel meaningful, but symptoms alone are not a dependable indicator of pregnancy. Some women experience fatigue 😴, breast tenderness, or mild lower abdominal cramping ⚡, while others feel absolutely nothing — and both can still result in a positive pregnancy.

It’s also important to remember that medications used in IVF cycles can closely mimic early pregnancy symptoms. Even light spotting or brown discharge may appear and does not necessarily indicate a negative outcome or a problem.

For this reason, early home pregnancy tests are not recommended 🚫. They often create unnecessary anxiety, as they cannot provide a definitive result at this stage.

The only reliable confirmation is the beta-hCG blood test 🧪, scheduled by your fertility team.

Trust the process. Trust the timing. Let science give you the answer at the right moment ⏳✨

A “not-so-perfect-looking” embryo does not mean a negative result. ✔️

In our IVF lab in 📍 Athens, Greece, what we see under the microscope is only part of the story.

Even a “moderate-quality” embryo can still lead to a successful pregnancy. The key point is that morphology reflects only part of the picture — it does not always reveal the genetic status of the embryo.

Today, AI tools like iDAScore add an extra layer of insight—analysing the full developmental journey of each embryo and generating a score linked to implantation potential.

Embryoscope+ incubators help embryologists refine selection and make more informed decisions when choosing embryos for transfer or cryopreservation.

👉If you’re exploring IVF, understanding how embryos are selected can make all the difference in how you see your treatment journey.

Everything looks normal… but nothing is happening.

💭37 years old
💭5 years of trying to conceive
💭4 unsuccessful IUIs
💭Tests that kept coming back "normal"

Unexplained infertility is emotionally exausting ⛈️. Watch this patient's story and see how a personalised IVF treatment approach from Dr. Evripidis Mantoudis and our team in 📍 Athens, Greece helped change the direction of her journey.

Instead of repeating the same path, we went back to the beginning:

👉🏻Advanced s***m testing
👉🏻Hormone & metabolic screening
👉🏻Implantation and recurrent miscarriages testing
👉🏻Pre-treatment supplementation for both partners
👉🏻A personalised IVF treatment protocol

Because success in IVF is not about repeating treatments.
It's about recognising what may have been missed for years and identifying the strategy that is right for each individual patient.

🧡 Many of the patients who come to us have spent months or even years searching for answers before finding a treatment plan that truly fits their needs.

“When is the first ultrasound scan performed after IVF?” 👶🏻

Join Dr. Fotis Vlachopoulos, a valued member of our team in 📍Athens, Greece, as he talks us through one of the most exciting milestones after IVF — the first pregnancy ultrasound scan.

The first scan is usually performed at around 7 weeks of pregnancy, approximately 3 weeks after the first positive beta hCG test following IVF treatment.

And yes, we know the wait can feel endless... 🧡

However, there is a good reason why we do not perform the scan earlier.

If the ultrasound is carried out too soon, it may still be too early to see the gestational sac or detect the baby's heartbeat, even when the pregnancy is developing normally. This can lead to unnecessary anxiety and uncertainty.

During the first ultrasound scan, we check:

• that the pregnancy is located inside the uterus (intrauterine pregnancy)
• how many gestational sacs are present
• whether a fetal heartbeat can be detected
• whether the embryo's growth is consistent with the gestational age

👉From your first consultation to your first pregnancy scan and beyond, we're here to guide you throughout your IVF journey.

Looking after your nutrition is one of the many ways you can support your body during IVF treatment. 🌿

You don't need to completely change your lifestyle or follow a strict diet. Instead, think of this period as an opportunity to make a few healthier choices and build habits that support your overall wellbeing.

A balanced Mediterranean-style diet, rich in protein, healthy fats, fruit, vegetables and antioxidants, is often recommended during fertility treatment. Staying well hydrated and making mindful food choices can help you feel your best throughout the process.

❗ Remember, there is no "perfect IVF diet". Small, sustainable habits are far more valuable than strict rules. 🧡

And if you're unsure where to start, our team in 📍 Athens, Greece is here to guide you with personalised advice and practical recommendations every step of the way.

IVF in Greece: FAQ series – Part 5

In previous parts, we covered treatment, safety, regulations, and support.
Now, Part 5 focuses on practical questions that often influence whether patients feel ready to move forward.

• Do you use the same medications as in my country?
• Do you treat single mothers and couples using double donation?
• Is BMI a restriction for IVF in Greece?
• Can I travel home shortly after embryo transfer?

These are important considerations — especially when planning treatment from abroad — as they affect both your eligibility and your overall treatment experience.

In Greece, fertility care is designed to be accessible, inclusive, and medically guided, while always prioritising safety and individual clinical assessment.

Every patient is different, which means your treatment plan is never based on strict “one-size-fits-all” rules, but on what is clinically appropriate for your case.

At our clinic in 📍Athens, Greece 🧡, we ensure full clarity from the very beginning — including medical protocols, travel planning, and what you can realistically expect at each stage of treatment.

Because feeling informed is just as important as feeling treated.

👉 Save this if you’re comparing IVF options abroad

And if you’re ready to explore your next step…

📩 Send us a message to speak with our team.
We’ll guide you through your options, suitability, and personalised treatment plan.

Your journey can start with clarity.
