“When is the first ultrasound scan performed after IVF?” 👶🏻

Join Dr. Fotis Vlachopoulos, a valued member of our team in 📍Athens, Greece, as he talks us through one of the most exciting milestones after IVF — the first pregnancy ultrasound scan.

The first scan is usually performed at around 7 weeks of pregnancy, approximately 3 weeks after the first positive beta hCG test following IVF treatment.

And yes, we know the wait can feel endless... 🧡

However, there is a good reason why we do not perform the scan earlier.

If the ultrasound is carried out too soon, it may still be too early to see the gestational sac or detect the baby's heartbeat, even when the pregnancy is developing normally. This can lead to unnecessary anxiety and uncertainty.

During the first ultrasound scan, we check:

• that the pregnancy is located inside the uterus (intrauterine pregnancy)
• how many gestational sacs are present
• whether a fetal heartbeat can be detected
• whether the embryo's growth is consistent with the gestational age

👉From your first consultation to your first pregnancy scan and beyond, we're here to guide you throughout your IVF journey.

Looking after your nutrition is one of the many ways you can support your body during IVF treatment. 🌿

You don't need to completely change your lifestyle or follow a strict diet. Instead, think of this period as an opportunity to make a few healthier choices and build habits that support your overall wellbeing.

A balanced Mediterranean-style diet, rich in protein, healthy fats, fruit, vegetables and antioxidants, is often recommended during fertility treatment. Staying well hydrated and making mindful food choices can help you feel your best throughout the process.

❗ Remember, there is no "perfect IVF diet". Small, sustainable habits are far more valuable than strict rules. 🧡

And if you're unsure where to start, our team in 📍 Athens, Greece is here to guide you with personalised advice and practical recommendations every step of the way.

IVF in Greece: FAQ series – Part 5

In previous parts, we covered treatment, safety, regulations, and support.
Now, Part 5 focuses on practical questions that often influence whether patients feel ready to move forward.

• Do you use the same medications as in my country?
• Do you treat single mothers and couples using double donation?
• Is BMI a restriction for IVF in Greece?
• Can I travel home shortly after embryo transfer?

These are important considerations — especially when planning treatment from abroad — as they affect both your eligibility and your overall treatment experience.

In Greece, fertility care is designed to be accessible, inclusive, and medically guided, while always prioritising safety and individual clinical assessment.

Every patient is different, which means your treatment plan is never based on strict “one-size-fits-all” rules, but on what is clinically appropriate for your case.

At our clinic in 📍Athens, Greece 🧡, we ensure full clarity from the very beginning — including medical protocols, travel planning, and what you can realistically expect at each stage of treatment.

Because feeling informed is just as important as feeling treated.

Good-quality embryos. Negative pregnancy test. What happens next? 🤔

In Part 1, Dr. Evripidis Mantoudis explained why embryo appearance alone does not guarantee implantation or pregnancy.

In this video, we focus on what comes next.

At Gennima IVF in 📍 Athens, Greece, we never rush into repeating the same treatment. Instead, we carefully review the complete picture 🔍— including previous IVF attempts, stimulation protocols, laboratory reports, medical history, and every detail that could help explain the outcome.

The reality is that implantation failure is rarely caused by a single factor. Identifying what truly matters requires experience, clinical judgement, and a personalised approach.

Our goal is not simply "to try again". It is to understand what has already been done, identify potential areas for improvement, and refine the strategy moving forward.

A key part of this process is our embryology lab 🧫. Every cycle is supported by multiple experienced embryologists, allowing for continuous quality control, collaborative decision-making, and close monitoring throughout embryo development and selection.

Because successful IVF is built on hundreds of small decisions — each one important.

Every failed IVF cycle provides valuable information. The key is knowing how to use it.

👉If you've been told that "everything looked perfect" but your IVF cycle was unsuccessful, a deeper evaluation may help reveal the next best step 🧡

Some journeys begin with uncertainty, but end with something deeply meaningful ✨

We’re grateful to share a Google review from a couple living abroad who came to our clinic in 📍 Athens, Greece, for help with secondary infertility and are now holding their long-awaited baby.

They highlight what matters most in care that crosses borders: clear communication, strong medical guidance, and continuous access to their doctor throughout the process. Being able to feel supported and understood made their experience smoother and more reassuring at every step.

Stories like this remind us why attention to detail, availability, and teamwork are essential in fertility care — especially for international patients who trust us with such an important part of their lives.

Can you exercise 👟 during IVF treatment ?
Yes — but the type and intensity of exercise matter. ✨

Low intensity movement such as walking, stretching, or yoga can help support both physical and emotional wellbeing during treatment 🧘🏻

However, as the ovaries become enlarged and more sensitive, high-intensity workouts, running, jumping, and heavy lifting are usually best avoided.

Every IVF journey is different, which is why exercise recommendations should always be tailored to each patient’s medical history and treatment plan.

If you’re unsure what is safe during your IVF cycle, our team in 📍 Athens, Greece will guide you based on your individual treatment plan and needs. 🧡

IVF in Greece: FAQ series – Part 4

In Parts 1–3, we covered travel, costs, safety, and regulations.
Now, Part 4 focuses on some of the most important medical and practical questions patients often ask before starting treatment abroad.

• Is 24/7 support available in case of an emergency?
• Is s***m or egg donation legal in Greece?
• Up to what age can a woman undergo IVF treatment?
• Is dual stimulation available?

When you’re navigating fertility treatment in another country, knowing that you’ll have clear communication, medical guidance, and ongoing support can make all the difference.

That’s why we believe patients should feel informed, supported, and cared for at every stage of the journey — not just during treatment itself.

At our clinic in 📍Athens, Greece we take the time to create a personalised plan based on your medical history, goals, and timeline, while making sure you always know where to turn if you need guidance or reassurance 🧡

Because fertility treatment is never one-size-fits-all.

Sometimes the longest journeys lead to the most beautiful surprises ✨

There were time limits, setbacks, more than one IVF attempt, and moments that felt emotionally exhausting. The kind of moments that test how much hope a person can hold onto.

And then… life had its own beautiful surprise waiting.
From 2 embryos… to 3 tiny heartbeats 🧡

This journey is such a beautiful reminder that every path to parenthood is different. Behind every positive test, there is usually so much resilience, quiet strength, and a woman who refused to stop believing in her dream.

To this lovely family — congratulations on your beautiful triplets. We wish you a lifetime filled with cuddles, laughter, chaos, happy little moments, and more love than you ever imagined possible 🧡

🤱 Before leaving the maternity ward, she shared her experience with us — the years of treatments, the losses, and how this IVF approach felt different from everything she had tried before.

At Gennima IVF in 📍Athens, Greece, we know that every case is different. Fertility treatment is never just about protocols — it’s about timing, diagnosis, and choosing the right path when previous attempts have not worked.

If you are on your own fertility journey or have experienced repeated IVF failure, there are still options that may be worth exploring.

📩 Our team is here to review your case and guide you through them.
