What actually happens during the first 5 days after fertilisation? 🧬

An embryo doesn’t simply “grow”. It goes through a series of carefully timed developmental stages — from a single cell, through repeated cell divisions, to the formation of a blastocyst.

By day 5, a healthy-looking embryo may have reached the blastocyst stage, when it has developed two distinct cell populations:
• the inner cell mass, which will form the fetus
• the trophectoderm, which will contribute to the placenta

Using the EmbryoScope+, our embryologists can continuously monitor embryo development without removing embryos from their controlled environment.
But watching an embryo develop is only one part of the process.

Embryo selection also involves looking at the full clinical picture, including age, medical history, previous IVF outcomes and the characteristics of the embryos themselves.

Because every embryo has a story. And every patient has a different one. 🧡

"What if it doesn't work?" "What if the injections hurt?"

If these thoughts are keeping you up at night before starting IVF, we want to share the exact advice our IVF coordinator, Maria, would give to her own best friend: take it one step at a time. 🌿☕

The fear of the unknown is usually much worse than the reality of the process itself. Once you know what to expect, meaning how your injections work, what the egg collection feels like, and who is there to support you, the journey becomes so much more manageable.

Seeing a positive test turn negative a few days later is heart-wrenching, and often, women are left wondering what actually happened. 💔

A biochemical pregnancy is a very early pregnancy loss that occurs shortly after implantation, before anything can be seen on an ultrasound scan. 🔬

What’s happening under the surface? 🧬
Fertilisation and implantation do take place, which triggers the body to produce hCG (the pregnancy hormone). However, development stops very early on.

How is it usually spotted? 🧪
With a faint or positive home pregnancy test, low or borderline initial hCG levels on a blood test, a subsequent drop in hCG levels and lastly, a follow-up test that turns negative.

Biochemical pregnancies happen just as frequently with natural conception. Many women simply mistake them for a slightly delayed period. In IVF, because we monitor blood work so closely from day one, we catch them far more often. 📈

In most cases, it’s caused by a random chromosomal abnormality in the embryo that stops it from progressing naturally.

What does this mean for your fertility? 🤍
A single biochemical pregnancy is usually an isolated event, and many women go on to have healthy, full-term pregnancies afterwards. While recurrent cases require further medical investigation, remember: a biochemical pregnancy on its own does not mean you cannot carry a baby to term. 👶✨

During the two-week wait, your body is under the influence of supportive medication. That means mild symptoms—or feeling completely normal with zero symptoms—are both 100% valid and normal. Your body simply can't give you the final answer just yet.

Having PΜOS doesn’t mean IVF is your only option, or even your first step.

For many women with Polyendocrine Metabolic Ovarian Syndrome, jumping straight into IVF isn’t necessary.

We always start by evaluating your cycle. If you aren't ovulating regularly, simpler and less invasive options like Ovulation Induction (often with medication like Letrozole) are usually the first line of treatment.

So when does IVF actually come into the picture?

When simpler treatments haven't resulted in pregnancy after several cycles.
If there are overlapping factors, such as male factor infertility (s***m quality) or tubal blockages.
If age is a factor and time is of the essence.

Women with PMOS often have a high egg reserve, which is great news! But it also means their ovaries can overreact to fertility medication.

Managing severe PMOS requires a fine-tuned, highly tailored stimulation protocol to get high-quality eggs while completely avoiding Ovarian Hyperstimulation Syndrome (OHSS).

Fertility care should never be copy-pasted. Every diagnosis is unique, and every protocol should be too.

At just 19, she had already spent 2 long years trying for the baby she wanted so deeply.

Two years of testing, trying, and undergoing different treatments. Despite her young age, tests revealed low ovarian reserve and high levels of oxidative stress in s***m. After an unsuccessful cycle of ovulation induction, she felt ready to take the next step. 💭

Our lead fertility specialist, Dr. Evripidis Mantoudis, initially encouraged her to hold off on IVF for a bit longer, given how young she was, and explore other options first.

But she felt strongly about moving forward with IVF right away. We listened, respected her determination, and tailored a precise protocol to give her the best possible chance. 🩺✨

Today, holding her little miracle in her arms, she says she doesn’t regret her decision for a single second:
