YOGA TEACHERS - *Preparation

Do you prepare for your yoga class in advance?

Plan your teaching beforehand. Give yourself some time and space to feel grounded before starting your class so that you can teach calmly and with better focus.

After many years of experience you may not need to prepare the plan of your class but taking time to be grounded is always valid.

YOGA TEACHERS - *Practice

Do you practice what you teach others?

Whatever you want to teach your students, it is important to practice it regularly yourself for a while before teaching it to others. You need to set aside dedicated time for your own practice. Whatever you do while teaching is not a substitute for your personal practice; the two need to remain separate.

WHAT IS NAMASTE?: 2/2

To perform Namaste, place the hands together at the heart chakra (heart centre), close the eyes, and bow the head. It can also be done by placing the hands together in front of the third eye, bowing the head, and then bringing the hands down to the heart. This is considered an especially deep form of respect.

Within a class, Namaste allows teachers and students (as well as the class as a whole) to show gratitude and reverence to one another. The teachers initiate Namaste as a symbol of honour toward their students and their own teachers and in return invites the students to connect to the idea that we are all one when we live from the heart.

We are all a part of some shared experience, linked. Acknowledging our connectedness and appreciating someone else’s journey is so simple, but has the potential to be incredibly powerful and all it takes is a bow.

WHAT IS NAMASTE?: 1/2

“Nama” means bow, “as” means I, and “te” means you.

Therefore, Namaste (formed through external sandhi) literally means “bow me you” or “I bow to you.”

The spoken “Namaste” and the gesture of Anjali Mudra represent the belief that there is a Divine spark within each of us. It also can be interpreted as honouring the shared spirit or oneness of humanity.

One way to translate it, could be that; “I honour the place in you in which the entire universe dwells, I honour the place in you which is of love, of integrity, of wisdom and of peace. When you are in that place in you, and I am in that place in me, we are One.”

The principle behind the movement is that we bring the hands together at the heart, acknowledging love, in conjunction with bowing and closing the eyes acknowledging surrender and respect.
