✨ THE UP STRETCH ON THE REFORMER ✨🌿 Refined Pilates with Jenny Colebourne
Have you ever wondered what makes an advanced Pilates exercise feel effortless rather than forced?
In this new video, I explore The Up Stretch on the Reformer — an intermediate exercise that teaches us so much about:
👐 Our sites of support🦶 The relationship of the toes with the carriage🌬️ Breathing into the back of the lungs🌀 Spinal succession🌿 Softness in the hip joints✨ Working with gravity rather than against it💫 Allowing the springs to support the movement
As our Pilates practice becomes more advanced, our sites of support become increasingly important. In The Up Stretch, we have only four primary points of support — the palms of the hands and the toes.
The secret is not to do more, but to feel more.
Rather than pulling the carriage home, we allow the springs to do their work. Rather than gripping, we surrender to gravity. Rather than forcing the hips, we soften and yield.
This is at the heart of Refined Pilates — discovering the subtle details that can completely transform the way an exercise feels. 🌿

My ongoing Refined Pilates classes, both online and in person, progressively prepare students for working on the equipment while exploring the deeper principles of Pilates — sites of support, breath, gravity and spinal successions.
💚 You are very welcome to join me.
I also offer private sessions for those who would like to explore the fine details of their practice and discover how to refine their movement.
🙏 Thank you to Themis Andreoulaki for her continuing dedication to Refined Pilates and for her generosity in being filmed and photographed.
🌸 Come and discover what becomes possible when we stop forcing the movement and begin to listen to it.
