Banging on pillows, desks, and anything else around the house is what made my mother put me into classical percussion lessons by the age of 13.
Meeting music on an academic level was fascinating. And when I started exploring jazz and other African-rooted traditions on the drumset, something greater opened up — my love for the world of rhythm was really growing.
Alongside the music, a parallel love grew: movement, meditation, energy work, and the capacity for self-healing.
Over time, academic study reached its limit for me. The pressure of "making it" as a professional musician slowly lost its meaning. I had heard of TaKeTiNa while studying, and something was calling me… but I didn't feel ready.
When I finally went to a TaKeTiNa workshop, I was magnetized - and I still am. My worlds came together in one practice: musicality, embodied work, meditation, and community. TaKeTiNa makes me feel at home.
"Connecting with rhythm and its intelligence is a loving state for me."
Rhythm can become a path back to the body and to each other. Follow along if that speaks to you.
